FAIR GUIDE The annual Lewis County Fair Guide is included as a separate insert in this edition. The guide was compiled and created by Lewis County Fair Board member Jill Putnam, who volunteers her time each year to provide this information. The Press-News Journal will have a fair section in the July 4 edition, the week before the fair begins. Durham Community Center Celebrating 50 Years June 22

Lewis County Historical Society reports that the history books of Lewis County families should be available by the end of August. All the editing is complete and they are now waiting for the publisher to finish the printing process. Any books ordered with postage already paid will be mailed directly from the publisher to the customer. Customers with books that are to be picked up at the Historical Society will be notified when to pick up their book. Rita Cox Editor rita1@lewispnj.com

TRI-STATE HOUSING SUMMIT TO OCCUR The Tri-State Housing Summit will be held in Iowa, Illinois and Missouri this year. The Iowa meeting is June 19. The Illinois summit is in Quincy from noon to 4 p.m. The Missouri meeting will be at the Centerstone Inn in Canton from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. USDA Rural Development Administrator Tammy Trevino will be speaking at each location.

The Durham Community Center and Ball Park will celebrate a milestone on June 22. The annual fish fry began 50 years ago as a fund raiser for the center. A history of the Center appears on page 4A. The event begins at 5 p.m. The fish fry menu includes catfish fillets, French fries

or potato salad, baked beans, dessert, bread and drink. A child plate of hot dog, chips, dessert and drink will also be served. The carnival also begins at 5 p.m.. Other events planned are a country store that has a variety of products including crafts, fresh eggs, dishes, flower arrangements and baked goods along with other items. An oldfashioned cake walk with prizes of cakes, cookies, cobblers and other goodies will be available. Other events planned are as-

New Team Member Ashley Wolf is the newest addition to the Press-News Journal staff. She had been working part time at the newspaper while in college. She has been a resident of Canton her whole life. She graduated from Canton R-V in 2009, where she was the valedictorian of her class. Wolf attended Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. and graduated May 11, 2013 with a bachelor’s of arts degree in English. While at college, she was involved with the Index, Truman’s

student-produced newspaper. She was a member of Phi Sigma Pi, a national co-ed honor society. Wolf will be the editorial assistant at the Press-News Journal. She will be covering stories throughout the county every week. She also will be in charge of the website and online content. She hopes to continue to provide vital information to the residents of Lewis County in a timely manner and looks forward to meeting and working with the community.

Anyone who found a balloon from the balloon release on March 30 that had tickets to the event attached are reminded to bring the tickets in to redeem. Everyone is invited to attend, it is a great time to visit with friends and neighbors and at the same time enjoy a delicious meal and support the center.
