CATTLEMEN TO HOST BANQUET & TEXAS HOLD ‘EM TOURNEY
11th Annual Scholarship Dinner to benefit local students The Macon County Cattlemen will host its 12th Annual Youth Scholarship Banquet on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 6:30 P.M. The prime rib dinner will be held at the Macon County Expo Center in Macon. Northeast Missouri businesses, individuals, and organizations will attend this year’s banquet to help raise funds to benefit local youth involved in the beef industry through scholarships and other financial assistance. Member Frankie Lolli explains, “With the money we have been able to raise with the help of local supporters, we have awarded 146 scholarships in eleven years, totaling more than $82,000 in awards to local high school seniors and current college students. The organization has also sponsored a barbecue at the county fair and assisted with several other youth events through the year.” In 2012, the Cattlemen plan to provide at least $5,000 in scholarships to local youth in addition to funding other youth-orientated activities in Macon County. Lolli also added the continued success of the banquet is due to the enthusiasm of local cattlemen, businesses, and individuals who participate in the auctions, raffle, and other fundraising at the event. “It doesn’t matter if the people attending are directly involved with agriculture, they are always willing to raise money for the kids and have a good time while doing so.”
Over one-hundred items will be raffled or auctioned for both youth and adults. A year ago, more than 90 Macon County area merchants again helped sponsor this event that grossed nearly $15,000. The Cattlemen are hoping to exceed last year’s record-setting attendance and fundraising efforts. “We hope this year’s prime rib menu and continued growth in interest will bring at least 300 to the event,” said Lolli. A Texas Hold’em Tournament will follow the steak dinner and short program. Advanced tickets and raffle tickets are available at Lolli Livestock Market or from any member of the Macon County Cattlemen’s Association. You may also call Frankie Lolli at (660) 385-2516.
The Church Without Walls in Atlanta gathered together on Friday evening and Saturday morning last weekend to make pies to be delivered frozen to customers this week. The group prepared over 600 pies for the Women’s Ministry Fundraiser.
Music And Dancing Beat The Winter Blues Big Band music, delicious food, and new this year, a car service, are some of the exciting activities for the event The Maples Repertory Theatre Board of Directors is finalizing details for the upcoming Winter Ball. “Just because our production season only runs June to December doesn’t mean that there’s not a lot happening at the theatre in the Winter” says Todd Davison, Artistic Director. “This will be the fourth annual Winter Ball and it has developed into an event that is anticipated by young and old patrons alike.” This year the Ball will be held at the Macon Elks Lodge on Saturday, February 25th at 7:30p.m. The centerpiece of the Winter Ball is music and once again it will feature the Memories Orchestra playing big band tunes for your listening and dancing pleasure. One of the few big dance bands in Missouri, this 15-piece ensemble is made up of talented musicians from all walks of life. North Missouri favorites Larry Bennett, Harold Dean Carothers, and Shane Petre play with the band. Food is also on the docket for the evening including an array of scrumptious desserts and savory hors d’oeuvres as well as fine coffee, tea, and champagne. “New for this year we are offering a car service. Just call the box office to let us know and we will send someone to pick you up and bring you to the Winter Ball and take you home at the end of the night.
No need to worry about driving after dark in February!” says Davison. Another new feature of the 2012 Winter Ball is a partnership with the Pear Tree Restaurant in Bevier. Special “Dinner and Dancing” packages are available to include a fine meal before the Ball. Maples Rep is gearing up now for its ninth season of professional theatrical productions. Actors, designers and technicians from all across the country are hired to come to North Missouri produce musicals and comedies at the historic Royal Theatre in Macon. Ticket sales are the primary revenue stream for the
non-profit theatre, but donations from individuals and businesses are needed to meet all the expenses of the company. Events like the Winter Ball help generate the money needed to pay the 40 plus members who make up the company and reside in Macon during the show season. For more information or tickets call the box office at 385-2924. You can also stop by Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday 10-2. “This annual benefit continues to allow us to produce excellent shows, so we hope to have a great crowd,” Davison says. “More people always equals more fun, so come on out and “Have a Ball.”
