The City of La Plata filings as of press time are: Mayor - Charles Thompson, incumbent and Dustin Sawyer; Alderman Ward I Charles Allen, incumbent and Sean Herron; Alderman Ward II Trent Perry, incumbent. Filings for the La Plata R-II Board of Education have been: Jeff Case and Brandon Mack. The terms of Becky Bunch and Jeff Case are up this year. No filings were reported for the City of Atlanta or the Atlanta C-3 Schools. Filing closes on January 17, 2012.

Accident At Atlanta Junction A two-vehicle accident occurred on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the north junction of Atlanta on Highway 63. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crash Reports, a 1998 Mercury driven by Lindsey Hudecz, age 27 of Atlanta was westbound, crossing US 63 when it drove into the side of a southbound 1999 Chevrolet van driven by Kelli Cottrill, age 39 of

La Plata. Cottrill ran off the road and struck a utility pole and a stop sign. Cottrill and her passenger, Braxton Cottrill, age 12 were both taken to Samaritan Hospital in Macon with minor injuries. All involved were wearing their safety devices. Hudecz’s vehicle received extensive damage and the Cottrill vehicle was totaled.

Fundraiser-Benefit For Victims Of Fire Students Attend Xtreme A fundraiser-benefit will be held at the Novinger School on January 21st for Daniel and Julie Kay (Hammons) Howe and family who lost their home in a fire Thanksgiving weekend. Serving of soup, drink, and dessert will begin at 11:30 a.m. for a donation.

Youth Conference A group of 18 students and adult chaperones attended the Xtreme Youth Conference (www.xtremeconferences.com) in Branson on December 27-29, 2011. The trip was organized and sponsored by Church WithOut Walls (WOW) of Atlanta. Speakers at the conference included the nation’s leading authorities on youth ministries including David Nasser, Tom Richter and Cody Deese. Today’s top Christian artists including the David Crowder Band, NewSong and Toby Mac also performed. Funding for the trip was provided by donations to Church WithOut Walls and the annual Fall Smorgasbord. Kyla Wilcox, Aaron Baker and Zach Small served as adult chaperones. The group stayed two nights at the Best Western Music Capital during the conference.

The group packed and ate meals like sandwich wraps, sloppy Joes, and pizzas through the week. On the trip home, the group had lunch at a Mexican Restaurant in Ozark, MO. The the following students attended the conference: Justine Bane, Tristan Collier, Danielle Welch, Jeremiah Rhoads, Kailin Dunham, Tanner Smith, Lance Couch, Vincent Elrod, Felicity Wilcox, Tagan Brookhart, Jade Whitesel, Katie Ogden, Eran Frasier, Demetri Thomas and Brandon Wilcox. Eran Frasier made the decision to become a Christian while at the conference! Church WithOut Walls meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 A.M. for breakfast followed by small groups and worship. Their meeting place is a home at 619 South Williamson in Atlanta.
