THE AWARD WINNING OFFICIAL LEGAL NEWSPAPER OF JUNEAU COUNTY
Suspect still wanted by police Juneau County and Sauk County Sheriff Departments are both asking for the public's help in identifying a male subject who is believed to have abducted and sexually assaulted a young female in Lyndon Station in September, as well as several attempts since at abducting others in the area. Last Thursday Juneau County Sheriff's Department and the Mauston Police Department issued a press release notifying the public that an 8 year old female in Mauston claimed she had been approached by the subject while she was walking to the school bus stop. Hours after issuing the release law enforcement discovered that there had been a misunderstanding due to the child overhearing adults speaking about the Lyndon Station incident, and believing she had seen the man and vehicle they had been discussing. While the Thursday morning incident may have been a misunderstanding, the evening prior in Sauk County another attempted abduction had been reported. In that case an 18 year old Baraboo male reported that he was approached by a male in a silver colored SUV who had asked him for directions. At one point the male attempted to pull the young man into his vehicle, however the victim fought back hitting the assailant and running away from the vehicle. According to Sheriff Brent Oleson the young male had long hair and described a subject very similar to the subject in the Lyndon Station incident. In a press release issued last Thursday Sheriff Oleson stated: "The sexual assault near Lyndon Station by a male subject described as being between 30 and 50 years old, 5’10” – 6’ tall and 180 – to 200 pounds has everyone on edge and concerned as it well should. The Juneau County Sheriff’s Office requests anyone with knowledge on this incident or the subject involved to contact us immediately at (608) 847-5649." Sheriff Oleson went on to state that there are several things parents can do to help keep their children safe: - Parents should know where their children are at all times and when they should be home. - Parents should know their child’s friends and how to get a hold of them. - Parents or babysitters should never leave small children unattended at home or in a car. - Children should be advised to not walk alone or take shortcuts through the woods or other. - Children should be told that bad people do not always look mean – they often look and are very friendly. - Children should be aware of their surroundings and report suspicious subjects or vehicles. - Parents should explain to their children what to do if approached by a stranger – such as yelling “help” as loud as they can, “I don’t know you” or something similar so people know they are in trouble. They should also be told it is ok to fight back. - Your child should know they should call 911 if they are scared or in danger The last incident in Juneau County believed to involve the same subject occurred on October 10th where a female reported that a Sport SUV crossover type vehicle followed her home to her residence in the Village of Lyndon Station. The vehicle eventually left and drove east on Hwy 12 & 16. The most recent incident in Sauk County is believed to have occurred over the weekend where according to a Reedsburg Police press release on Sunday evening, just prior to midnight, an adult male subject was approached in the area of S. Dewey Avenue and E. Main Street in Reedsburg by a male in a silver SUV. The driver of the SUV asked the subject if he would like a ride and the subject refused. The subject was able to leave without incident. However, he did describe the suspect as being in his mid-late 30’s, with a beard and wearing a baseball cap. The suspect was driving a silver, compact SUV that left the city eastbound. Officers were unable to locate the suspect vehicle or driver. Richland Center man charged in Juneau County with fifth OWI BY EVA MARIE WOYWOD David A. Alveraz, 42, of Richland Center appeared Monday in Juneau County Circuit Court before Judge Paul Curran on a felony charge of Operating While Intoxicated 5th offense. Alveraz was in custody of the Juneau County Sheriff's Department and appeared via video feed from the jail. According to the criminal complaint on the evening of Saturday, October 19th, Necedah officer Adam Noe was on routine patrol and stopped at the Kwik Trip in Necedah to fuel his patrol vehicle when a subject at another pump approached him stating that he thought someone just hit one of the black poles by the diesel pumps. When investigating the matter Noe observed a red 1995 Chevy Camaro on the north end of Kwik Trip's parking lot. The vehicle had damage on the driver's side and there were two subjects near the vehicle, Pilar Martinez Jr. and Mary Dalberg. Noe then writes he observed Alveraz walking towards the diesel pump where he picked up a large piece of the vehicle. In speaking with the three subjects all three claimed not to have been driving the vehicle. The vehicle was registered to Alveraz. Officer Noe spoke to the employees inside Kwik Trip who witnessed Alveraz get into the driver side of the vehicle after making a purchase in the store. Moments later the vehicle was seen in the north end of the lot, and a loud noise was heard. Again Officer Noe spoke to the suspect and this time both Martinez and Dalberg allegedly stated Martinez was the driver. Alveraz was given a field sobriety test in which at one point he refused to cooperate claiming that there was no reason to take it since he had not been driving and that Pilar was the driver.
He was transported to the Hess Memorial E.R. where he submitted to a blood draw. Once cleared by the hospital staff he was transported to the Juneau County Jail. Throughout he reportedly claimed he had not been driving. Alveraz has been charged and convicted of four prior OWIs dating back to 1991 with the most recent conviction being in 2002. Judge Curran placed him on a signature bond with conditions of absolute sobriety. He will return to court on November 20th for an initial appearance. He is currently facing a charge in Richland County on a domestic abuse disorderly conduct which is scheduled for trial after the start of the year.
