Currently, there are 17 students enrolled in the morning class and 15 enrolled in the afternoon class at the Mauston Center. Copper stolen at Necedah business Several hundred pounds of copper were stolen from a recycling business north of Necedah. Deputies investigating called local salvage yards, but have had no reports of similar copper sales. Juneau County officials reported that last week someone had entered the Necedah Metals building on 18th street and cut a padlock off of a safe. There was no cash in the safe, but two handcarts were missing that were used to move two barrels of copper that weighed a total of 200 pounds. After authorities had left the location the owner later reported that he located two handcarts and two empty barrels east of Highway 80 on the side of the road. Anyone with information on this case can report to county authorities at 608-847-5649.

On Monday morning, as a result of a plea agreement, a former Elroy man, Vincent A. Casares, was sentenced to six months in Juneau County Court on a fourth degree sexual assault which was charged in 2012. At the time of sentencing Casares, 22 years old, was incarnated in the New Lisbon Correctional Facility for prior burglary convictions in Juneau and Sauk counties. The most recent sentence imposed will be served consecutive to his prior convictions and sentencing. At Monday's sentencing two additional 2012 sexual assaults cases against Casares were dismissed but read into the record for the purpose of sentencing. In all three sexual assault cases against Casares the victims were minor females. According to the criminal complaint in one of the 2012 cases an eight year old female reported to authorities that Casares had inappropriately touched her while she was using a computer. The incident was alleged to have occurred in May 2012 in Elroy. He was originally charged with first degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 13. In the other two cases he was alleged to have assaulted a 13 year old girl in 2011 and a 15 year old in 2010. In both cases he was originally charged with second degree sexual assault. However, charges were amended and he was convicted on fourth degree sexual assault for the 2010 incident. Fourth degree sexual assault is a misdemeanor. Casares was represented in court by defense attorney Daniel Berkos. Assistant Juneau County District Attorney Clifford Burdon represented the State of Wisconsin.

Skiff plea hearing postponed BY EVA MARIE WOYWOD On Tuesday afternoon in court 21 year old Ryan G. Skiff appeared in custody for a plea hearing. Skiff is facing numerous felony and misdemeanor charges in cases that were filed earlier this year over the summer months. Some of those charges include repeated sexual assault of a child, and burglary while arming self with a dangerous weapon. Juneau County Assistant District Attorney Clifford Burden appeared for the State of Wisconsin and requested that Judge Paul Curran adjourn the matter for rescheduling. Burden explained that Skiff's attorney, Elizabeth Mitchel, was still in the process of attaining information for the defense, and that the state also required additional time in reaching a possible agreement. Judge Curran noted that the charges had just been filed over the summer months and agreed to reschedule the plea hearing for January 14, 2014 and a pre-trial conference is scheduled for December 3rd. According to criminal complaints, on May 28, 2013, Deputy Jay Greeno of the Juneau County Sheriff's Department took a complaint from a Camp Douglas resident on a burglary at his residence. The complaint alleged a .22 caliber rifle and a laptop were stolen from inside the residence. The complaint went on to state that on June 3 Deputy Greeno became aware that Skiff had been arrested in Camp Douglas for attempting to enter a residence and that on May 27 Skiff was known to be in the Camp Douglas area asking local residents for money. Skiff is alleged to have admitted to burglarizing the residence and taking the rifle and laptop. He further claimed at the time of the crime he had been high on mushrooms and "needed money for smokes." Skiff then provided law enforcement with information on where the rifle and laptop could be found. In another case, the criminal complaint states that on

December 21, 2012 Detective Goerhing met with a 15 year old female who reported multiple occurrences of sexual contact the minor had with Skiff who would have been 20 years old at the time they occurred. Skiff is currently in the custody of the Juneau County Sheriff's Department where he has been placed on a $10,000 cash bond.
