THE AWARD WINNING OFFICIAL LEGAL NEWSPAPER OF JUNEAU COUNTY THURSDAY, AUGUST 15, 2013
Mauston couple charged with forgery for cashing checks A Mauston couple is facing charges of felony uttering (forging) and misdemeanor theft. According to police reports Matthew Talley, age 23, and 25 year old girlfriend Brianna Tande, are alleged to have stolen blank checks from relatives and cashed them. In a July 30, 2013 incident report written by Mauston Matthew Talley Police Officer Adam Noe it states he took information on a complaint that someone had stolen Talley's mother's checks from her checkbook. According to his report, five out of six of the checks had already cleared the bank and were written to Brianna Tande. Officer Noe also states in his report that he had received second hand information that Tande's grandmother had also had checks stolen from her. Officer Noe then writes that later in the day he stopped by Tande's residence to speak with her. Upon arrival, Tande is alleged to have answered the door with tears in her eyes and questioning "am I going to jail?" Tande allegedly stated she was willing to speak with the officer without an attorney and freely admitted to stealing her grandmother's checks and that she was sorry. Officer Noe states that he explained to Tande he was not there about her grandmother's checks but instead the ones stolen from Talley's mother to which Tande is said to have stated, "Okay, I'll tell you everything." According to the report after he provided Tande with her rights she stated that Talley had stolen the checks, she wrote her name on them, and then Talley forged his mother's signature. However, in regard to the checks stolen from Tande's grandmother she claimed that Talley had no part in the crime, "it was all me," she stated according to the criminal complaint. The money was spent on clothing for Talley and their daughter, according to Tande. Tande then granted permission for Officer Noe to enter the residence and speak to Talley. Prior to entering the residence the officer received information from the Juneau County Communications Center that Talley had a warrant for his arrest. Talley was arrested and transported to the Juneau County Jail where he declined to answer questions without an attorney present. The amount claimed to be stolen from Tande's grandmother is $1,650. The five out of six checks stolen from Talley's mother totaled $905. Currently Talley is in the custody of the Juneau County Sheriff's Department on a probation hold and is scheduled to appear in Juneau County Court for an initial appearance on the recent charges on September 11, 2013. Tande is also scheduled for an initial appearance on September 11.

A reckless evening ends in multiple arrests BY EVA MARIE WOYWOD According to police reports and criminal complaints the evening of August 10th was an eventful one in Germantown Township and has led to two Elroy men, Jamie M. Jelinek and Gary M. Stokely III, being charged with felony burglary and operating a vehicle without owners consent, and an Elroy woman, Hayley Hart, being picked up on a probation hold. According to the reports, Hart had been staying at, and taking care of a residence on Harbor Drive in the Township of Germantown. On the evening of August 10th, Hart was at the Pine Cove Resort where she allegedly was driving recklessly and had caused damage to her car and struck a bird feeder. She was cited for reckless driving and endangering safety and subsequently landed in the Juneau County Jail on a probation hold. The following morning Juneau County Detective James Varcoe was dispatched to the address at Harbor Drive in Germantown for a burglary complaint. Upon arrival the deputy met with the owner of the residence, Darrick Nelson who reported that he had been out of town the evening prior and that Hart had been the person staying at and taking care of the residence. Nelson, according to the report, went on to state that an unknown person entered the residence and garage and took some property including a firearm and motorcycle without his consent. He offered that the person who did it may have had a key or the door wasn't locked but
he believed that Hart was not the guilty party as she had been arrested the prior evening. Other items missing from the property included cash, electronics, and automotive accessories. A neighbor of Nelson's had a home surveillance system in which Deputy Varcoe and Nelson reviewed the video as a camera was directed at the front of the residence showing the garage and parking area to Nelson's property. The video is said to have revealed that at approximately 9:00 p.m. two people walk from a vehicle parked off Nelson's property to the residence. Later on in the video at around 11:30 p.m. it showed a full sized pick up truck parked in front of Nelson's garage. The video also shows Nelson's motorcycle being driven away and the truck leaving. Nelson believed the truck to have belonged to Hart's former boyfriend named Jamie. Deputy Varcoe then interviewed Hart at the Juneau County Jail where she stated she was not aware of the burglary and did not have any information but did confirm her former boyfriend, Jamie Jelinek, did have a similar truck. Hart also relayed to the Deputy that the prior evening she was at the Pine Cove Resort with Jelinek, Stokely, and another individual, however, did not see either Jelinek nor Stokely after leaving the Pine Cove as she had been arrested. On that same day Juneau County Deputy Beier made contact with Jelinek at his residence in Elroy and reported that he confessed to the crime. He went with law enforcement to the location in which the motorcycle was
Jamie Jelinek kept, Fowler being Cemetery in the Town of Plymouth. Additional stolen property, but not all of it, was located at Jelinek's residence in Elroy. The report goes on to state that when asked where the remainder of the property was Jelinek pointed to a neighboring residence and stated that Stokely resided there. When law enforcement contacted Stokely he reportedly denied knowing of the existence of the stolen property or of the burglary and filled out a written statement stating so. Later in a conversation with law enforcement Stokely allegedly admitted to being at Nelson's residence at the time of the burglary but claimed he did not get out of the truck and was the one to drive the truck away from the property. In further interviews with Jelinek he reportedly told law enforcement that Hart had no involvement in the crime as she was not at the residence when he and Stokely initially went there at 9:00 p.m. the prior evening. He went there to meet Hart but found she wasn't there and the residence was unlocked. At that time Jelinek reports he and Stokely entered the home and took some cash and loose change. Later that evening they met up for drinks with Hart and another friend at the
Gary Stokely
Hayley Hart Pine Cove Resort. They left the Pine Cove around 11:30 to proceed to the Nelson residence where they planned to do more drinking with Hart and the other individual. Jelinek went on to state that Hart did not arrive, and after receiving a text message that she was going to jail they decided to take the other property from the residence. Next Steps On Tuesday, August 13, Stokely was placed on a $10,000 signature bond and is scheduled for a September 11, 2013 initial appearance. Jelinek was placed on and posted a $1,000 cash bond and is scheduled for an August 21, 2013 initial appearance. Hart remains in custody of the Juneau County Sheriff's Department on a probation hold for what appears to be a 2012 case where she pled guilty to misdemeanor theft and receiving stolen property charges. Hart was not implicated in the case against Jelinek and Stokely.
