THE AWARD WINNING OFFICIAL LEGAL NEWSPAPER OF JUNEAU COUNTY

Necedah man charged with 7th OWI BY EVA MARIE WOYWOD On Monday, February 10, 2014, 40 year old Christopher E. Coles of Necedah was charged in Juneau County Circuit Court with operating while intoxicated-7th offense and operating a motor vehicle while revoked. Coles was placed on a $1,000 cash bond and remains in custody of the Juneau County Sheriff's Department. Background According to the criminal complaint on the evening of February 8th Village of Necedah officer Adam Noe was traveling southbound on South Main Street when he observed a male driving a 1995 Jeep with what looked like his seatbelt unfastened. A records check on the vehicle's license plate revealed that the vehicle had a Rock County interlock sanction and that the registered owner's driver’s license was revoked due to an OWI related incident. Officer Noe activated his emergency lights and stopped the vehicle just pass County Road G. Coles was alone in the vehicle and indicated he was the owner and was unable to produce a driver's license, registration, or proof of insurance. The complaint states that a strong odor of intoxicants was coming from Coles’ breath and that he admitted to having five drinks approximately an hour and a half prior to the traffic stop. Due to the cold weather Noe took Coles and transported him to Hess Memorial Hospital for a field sobriety test. After the test was performed Coles was notified he was under arrest for operating while intoxicated, 7th offense. His prior convictions for operating while intoxicated have been in Rock, Dunn, Columbia, and Juneau counties dating back to 1994 and with the most recent being 2011. He is scheduled for a February 17, 2014 preliminary hearing before Judge John Roemer.

Two Mauston men charged with burglaries BY EVA MARIE WOYWOD On Monday, February 10, the Juneau County District Attorney's office filed numerous charges of burglary, theft and criminal damage to property against 22 year old Timothy J. Gropp and 23 year old Dylan J. Seely, both from Mauston. Both men were charged as party to a crime, and Seely was also charged as a repeater. According to the criminal complaints, on February 7th Detective Shaun Goyette of the Juneau County Sheriff Department was investigating a burglary and attempted break-ins that had occurred on Sandstone Drive in Germantown Township which resulted in the arrests of Gropp and Seely. The complaint goes on to state that the burglaries occurred at three different residences on Sandstone Drive during the first few days of February. Items taken include a Bosch 18V Cordless Drill, a jig saw, framing nailer, cordless hammer, reciprocating saw, bolt cutters, and other carpenter tools. On February 4th the detective checked area pawn shop records in which he located a pawn ticket at Pawn America in Madison. The date on the ticket was February 1, 2014 in the name of Dylan J. Seely. The items listed included a framing nailer, reciprocating saw, cordless drill, jig saw, and a Husky air compressor. According to the complaint, all tools matched items taken from a Sandstone Drive residence and were identified later by the victim. On February 5th a search warrant was executed at Seely's last known residence. Seely was not present while the search warrant was executed, however, family members present attempted to contact him, and expressed to Detective Goyette that Gropp had also been staying at the residence. Items recovered during the search included a Samsung cell phone, 6 glass pipes that smelled of burnt marijuana, other drug paraphernalia, a chainsaw blade cover, and 2 cell phone covers. Two days later Detective Goyette received information that Dylan would be meeting Gropp at the hospital parking lot to exchange a bolt cutter. With the assistance of the Mauston Police Department, the pair were observed at the hospital and their vehicles were

searched. Both men were taken into custody and transported to the Juneau County Sheriff Department. During an interview with law enforcement, Seely is alleged to have admitted to pawning the items for Gropp, that he was present when the burglaries occurred, and that he helped carry the items out. Seely stated that it was Gropp's idea to commit the burglaries. Gropp is said to have admitted to riding along with Seely to the Madison pawn shop. He denied breaking into the garages on Sandstone Drive and denied being present for the burglaries. Later that day and after the interview with Gropp, Detective Goyette searched Gropp’s vehicle which had been secured at the Sheriff's Impound. Located during the search were 47 $10 car wash tokens for Rudig Jensen, a cordless drill/driver combo, and a large amount of saw blades. At a February 10, 2014 bond hearing Gropp was placed on a $5,000 cash bond. An initial appearance was scheduled for February 19th before Judge Paul Curran. Seely was placed on a $1,000 signature bond and an initial appearance was scheduled for March 12, 2014 before Judge John Roemer.
