Marathon Runner Escapes Confrontation Without Serious Injuries By Cle s McConnell Vede e Reporter
On Sunday, October 12, 2014, at about 2 p.m., Kenneth M. Snider, while dressed in running type clothing, training for a marathon and running east on County Road 182, just outside Lockwood, had an experience he will never forget. According to a probable cause statement filed, Snider approached the intersection of County Road 93, where there was a residence, ran past the residence and turned north on County Road 95. Shortly after, while running north on County Road 95 approximately one quarter mile north of County Road 182, Snider
realized a truck approached from his rear. Snider believed it to be friends messing with him. The white truck pulled beside Snider and paralleled his running for a short distance. He stated he did not know the person in the pickup, but waved at him. Shortly, the truck moved closer and ultimately forced him to run into the ditch. The truck stopped and Snider spoke with the driver who appeared agitated. The man in the white truck ask who he was and what was he doing? Snider told him he was training for a marathon. The man replied by cursing incoherently at
Snider and he became more agitated. While he was standing at the door of the driver’s truck, Snider ask the gentleman to please calm down and this is when the man struck him in the face. The man then exited the truck, retrieved a rifle and held it on Snider. Snider backpedaled all the while telling the man to calm down. The man told Snider to run and fired several times in front of him. Snider ran north on County Road 95 while the man continued to follow him and fire the rifle at him several times. He could hear the bullets impacting close to him, feeling a sting to the side of his lower right leg at the
same time. Ultimately, Snider was able to elude the man by running and hiding behind a nearby residence, where he contacted a friend by phone and left the area. Snider contacted Dade County 911 at 2:09 p.m., reported the incident and what had happened to him. Investigating officers found evidence consistent with the statement Snider gave them. Later, officers contacted the man who was in his yard. When they ask him about the incident, he offered no initial or defensible version of the incident. Snider was present in a nearby vehicle and
personally identified the man as the person who shot at him. An arrest of resident Jackie L. Dickerson was attempted. He resisted and an officer deployed a taser to subdue Dickerson. A brown semi-automatic .22 rifle was recovered at the residence. Dickerson was transported to the Dade County Jail and charged with first degree assault, armed criminal action, and resisting arrest. The case is being investigated by Sergeant Jason B. Trammell, Missouri State Highway Patrol.
