Christmas Project 2014
The Dade County Men’s Civic Club are now putting together plans for the 2014 Christmas Gift Program for the less fortunate children of Dade County. We count on the generosity of the community to help fund the cost of the gifts. You have been so kind to us the last several years and do hope that you will continue to help with this charity. There will be approximately 230 children that are in need of our help. We hope to make this a merrier Christmas for them and that some day they will remember that someone did care and that after they are grown, that they will want to ‘pay this help forward.’ Please send your donations to Don Adams, Treasurer, 35 N. State Hwy 39, Greenfield, MO 65661; Scotty Holman, President, 746 College Street, Greenfield, MO 65661; Homer G. Ellis, Vice President, P.O. Box 126, Lockwood, MO 65682 or anyone of the members. There will be drop off boxes at the Dollar General Store in Greenfield as well as at the local banks, where you can leave a new toy if that would be your choice. Thank you, one and all!

The Dade County Men’s Civic Club is a group of men who try to get children to think about their everyday life in a sense of what is right and what is wrong. They try to encourage children to live by the “Golden Rule”...do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Be the best you can be. Say no to drugs, tobaco and alchohol. Obey your parents and follow instructions from teachers. Be a part of the solution, not the problem. The Civic Club was started in 1988 by John McClanahan, Henry Gee and Frances Steenrod and did many things to help the community. “I was delighted to receive an invitation to join them in 1995,” says Don Adams. The Club has never paid any member for car mileage or any other service they may do and all money raised goes toward their charity projects. Some of the things they do are visiting the elderly, delivering meals

on wheels, sponsoring a Halloween Trick or Treat party at the Dade County Nursing Home each year. They sponsor a poster contest each year for all the children of Dade County schools, giving prizes to all the first, second and third place winners. “The American Legion, law enforcement officers and other respectable organizations judge the posters for us,” Adams says. They sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt every year at the Greenfield park with all area chil-
dren invited. They also participate in most of the holiday parades. They sponsor a golf tournament the first part of June to raise funds for their programs. The Civic Club partners with OACAC each year for the Christmas project for the less fortunate children of Dade County. The gifts furnished for this program include clothes, a large variety of toys and usually 18 or so bicycles. A donation is given to the Marines for their help with new toys.
The Club tries each year to donate some money to the high school senior scholarships. Now and then, the opportunity arises where the club can do other things for the community. And it is always greatly appreciated. The above is only a partial list of things they do throughout the year. The Civic Club asks you to contact them with any new idea that could be in the realm of things they can do to help where help is needed. They believe that to serve
and help others is a very rewarding and fulfilling thing to do. The Dade County Men’s Civic Club invite all men with good morals and time to work to join the club. If you might be interested in joining, contact Scott Holman, president, at 417-637-5022 or Larry Hilburn, secretary, at 417637-2716 or Don Adams, public relations, at 417637-5742 or any one of the members.
thrown and the tree lit up beautifully! Lockwood is fortunate to have such a nice “centerpiece” to keep everyone in the Holiday spirit and to add beauty throughout the year. The Lockwood Chamber would like to give special thanks to some individuals that went over and above the call of duty to insure a wonderful evening. Prairie Mountain Screening and their employees were fantastic to come up and place all the small trees up and down Main Street and decorate them. That same crew spruced up the Christmas Tree Park and the decorations for the BIG tree. They were there when the City of Lockwood and their employees graciously helped install decorations and lights. Thanks to the City crew, as well. The tree looked awesome! Special thanks to
help in correcting some of the damage. It’s a shame to work so hard to do something for others to be met with the reality of someone simply tearing it down because they can. Please pray for a small number of the youth in our community to help them see the importance of respecting property belonging to others. There’s no way to mention every individual who worked on this event because someone would be missed, but please know you are appreciated for your work and your participation. We also appreciate the support of the community. The Chamber is now looking forward to the Annual Lockwood Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade which will be held December 6th at 1:30 pm. The theme is “Great American Christmas”. Don’t forget to con-

What a beautiful evening! The Lockwood Chamber of Commerce proudly sponsored the Annual Holiday Sale and Christmas Tree Lighting on November 22, 2014. The festivities started at 5:00 pm with many businesses being open and other businesses having booths set up in the American Legion Building. There were also booths set up on the sidewalks on Main Street. People came to town to enjoy the shopping and the fellowship of this small community. Many people remember when Saturday night was THE night when everyone came to town for shopping and for a band concert in the band stand. The Lockwood Chamber would like to thank those businesses that participated in the event and especially for those that offered prize drawings. The Chamber also offered gift certificates as prizes. The following is the list of winners: Rader’s Store - 4 gift certificates of $25.00 each: Patty Evermon, Brittany Beck, Kaylyn Wehrman, Leland Eggerman Friends for Animals – Christmas Quilt - Jody McKey S&H Farm Supply – Pink Tractor Pillow Nancy Nentrup Great Southern Bank – Gift Basket - Linda Eggerman Lockwood Chamber of Commerce – $30.00 Gift Certificate Shawnee Bench $50.00 Gift Certificate Roger McKee $75.00 Gift Certificate Zachary Smith The Miss Merry Christmas Queen candi-

dates were on hand to assist with the prize drawings. These young ladies will represent their respective classes in the upcoming parade. The candidates are: senior, Ashley Rorman; junior, Morgan Brewer; sophomor, Ashley Terry; freshman, Alissa Bench. Voting for this honor will
be held Tuesday at the Lockwood High School. The evening came to culmination after the drawings when it was time for the main attraction. The crowd joined together for a sing-a-long and then the countdown for the official Christmas Tree Lighting. The switch was
Mike Galer and Kevin White who worked to make sure all the Christmas lights were working on the buildings. This job was made more difficult due to some juvenile vandalism that forced some repairs to be done twice. Thanks to Officer Shannon Higgins for his
tact Penny White at Town & Country Tire to get your entry added to the lineup. We look forward to seeing you at the parade! Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas from the Lockwood Chamber of Commerce!!!!!
