COMMUNITY NEWS Pink Lady Day at DES
DeWitt Elementary School took the Arkansas Breakfast Apple Crunch Challenge on October 24, 2014 by hosting Pink Lady Day. The children eating breakfast were greeted by several special guests dressed in pink and serving pink lady apples with breakfast. The special guests were ladies dressed in pink because they were breast cancer survivors. Seeing that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, DES wanted to show their support to these brave ladies. In addition to the pink lady apples, the children were served cereal, toast with jelly, and milk for
a balanced breakfast. After breakfast, all grades kindergarten through fifth grade and teachers were dressed in pink gathered in the gym for a Pink Lady assembly. Each class had posters supporting Pink Lady Apples and Cancer survivors. A short presentation was presented on the benefits of healthy nutrition specifically apples. DHS cheerleaders as well as DES teachers, who had formally cheered, twirled or acted as mascot, led the entire school in cheer. Pink Lady posters are on display and can be viewed in the DES cafeteria.
