Senior Dragons Defeat Bobcats 13 to 7 By Dawn Teer

The Sr. Dragons travelled to Dumas to meet the Dumas Bobcats on Friday. They both had 1-6 seasons. The Bobcats won the coin toss and chose to defer to the 2nd half so the Dragons would start off receiving the ball. A good return by Tavius Fowler started the Dragons off at their own 44 yard line. Jake Rieves keeps the ball and has running room to the Bobcats 45 yard line. A false start penalty brings up 3rd and 10. Rieves pass is incomplete, bringing up 4th and 10. The punt team comes out and the punt goes to the 18 yard line where it is returned by the Bobcats to the 35 yard line. The Bobcats receive a holding penalty which backs them up 10 yards. On 1st and 20 the Dragon Defense only allows a gain of 9 yards. They are forced to punt and it is picked up by Fowler who returns it to the 26 yard line. The Dragon offense takes over and Rieves hands it off to Bradford who fights for 8 yards. The Dragon offense has played better than they have all year. On 3rd and 8 Rieves completes a pass of 12 yards to Fowler. On 1st and 10 on the 48 yard line of the Bobcats. Rieves keeps the ball and makes another 1st down. Another 3rd down and Rieves keeps the ball, the Bobcats strip the ball from him at the one yard line. After a much disputed call by the officials, the flag is picked up and the Bobcats are given the ball at the one yard line. The Bobcats take over and the Dragon Defense is fired up. Harris passes down the field and completes the pass. However, offensive pass interference is called and the ball is brought back half the distance to the goal. A holding call against the Bobcats, moves the ball back to the line of scrimmage bringing up 1st and 20. Taveon Bell and Chris Williams sack Harris for a loss. This brings up 3rd and 20. They are forced to punt. Gamble returns the ball to inside the 30 yard line but there are 2 flags on the field. After a block in the back call, the Dragons start on their own 49 yard line. Rieves gives it to Bradford for a 7 yard gain. Rieves keeps the ball and gets to the 35 yard line of the Bobcats. On a fake punt, Jay Davis goes down the sidelines for a touchdown. solid team for an entire quarter and the results are on the scoreboard. Score: Dragons 7, Bobcats 0. The start of the 2nd quarter has the Dragons fired up. The Bobcats fair catch the ball at the 33 yard line. The Defense comes out with a renewed intensity that has kept the Bobcats offense to less than 30 yards. Shane Bitner provided great coverage on a crucial 3rd down play and the pass is incomplete. The Bobcats are forced to punt. The Dragons take over with Bradford making a gain of 16 yards. Rieves hands off to Bradford again who gets stopped short for a loss of one on the play. Rieves completes a pass to Dayne Van Camp who was out of bounds. On 3rd and 11 Rieves throws to Bradford who has running room to the 5 yard line. This was a 49 yard run for Bradford. Rieves gives the ball to Dabner who only gets a couple yards. The Dragons are looking at 2nd and goal at the 2 yard line. Dabner takes it into the end zone. The extra point is not good. Score: Dragons 13, Bobcats 0 The Bobcats receive the ball and a pass is intercepted by the Dragons, but is called out of bounds. Bobcats keep the ball at their own 40 yard line. Chris Williams hit the running back Phillips behind the line of scrimmage. On 3rd and 3 Sollars McCoy forced the quarterback out of the pocket and Jay Davis sacked him. The Bobcats have to punt. The Dragons almost blocked the punt. The Dragons take over at the 17 yard line. Another bad spot by the officials and the Dragons are facing 2nd and 8. Bradford gains one on the next play. Officials call for a measurement and the Dragons are a yard shy. A loss of a down for some reason brings up 4th down. No 3rd down was played and a holding call is called against the Dragons, oddly enough the players were all laying on the field so a hold was not possible. The punt team comes on the field. This reporter doesn’t know where these officials came from, but they may need to go back to officiating school. There was never an explanation for why the down was lost. The radio announcers also were confused as to what was going on with the officials. There

was a 7 yard penalty for what reason no one seemed to know. The Dragons punt the ball away. On 3rd and 10 Harris throws down the field and Gamble intercepts the ball. Unable to capitalize on the interception, the Dragons face a 3rd and 14 from their own 45 yard line. Rieves keeps the ball and gets down to the 35 yard line. A flag on the field and it’s 3rd down and 2. On 4th and 2 and 51 seconds left in the half, Dabner fights for a 1st down. Fowler makes a 14 yard gain and another 1st down. Dragons are on the Bobcats 26 yard line with 24 seconds left. Rieves passes and Robinson catches the ball but hits the goalpost hard. The back judge calls it incomplete. The ball is turned over to the Bobcats. The pass to the receiver is caught but there is a flag on the play. The half is over. Score: Dragons 13, Bobcats 0 The 2nd half begins with the Bobcats receiving the ball. Harris passes to Spinks inside the 10 yard line. At the 2 yard line Harris scores. The extra point is good. Score: Dragons 13, Bobcats 7 Robinson receives the return and gets it out to the 31 yard line. Rieves keeps the ball and gains about 9 yards and another 1st down. Rieves pitches to Bradford who breaks one tackle and a flag is on the field. A block in the back against the Dragons but there were no Dragons in the area. This brings up 1st and 23. If there were instant replay here these officials would probably not have a job anymore. Rieves hands off to Bradford who gains about 7. On 3rd and 17 Rieves pass is incomplete and they are forced to punt. On a great stop by the Dragon Defense on a 3rd down play, a hold is called against the Bobcats. The punt team comes out. The Dragons take over on the 13 yard line. Chris Williams almost got his hand on that punt again. The Bobcat Defense has shut down the offense of the Dragons. On 4th and 11 the Dragons are forced to punt again. Spinks returns the ball and a flag is down again. Another block in the back against the Bobcats. The Bobcats start off at the 49 yard line. and Jay Davis bring Harris down for a loss. They have to punt. The Dragon Defense has stepped up again, but the offense was stagnant during the second half. Jake Rieves keeps the ball and on a gain of 8 also manages to knock the helmet off a defender while breaking a tackle. Unfortunately, an interception by the Bobcats results in a touchdown for the Bobcats. The PAT is good and for the first time the Bobcats lead the Dragons. Score: Dragons 13, Bobcats 14. The Dragons trying to get their momentum back, and Rieves pitches to Van Camp who makes sure to get enough yards for the first down. Bradford fights for 9 yards, dragging tacklers as he goes. On 3rd and 3, Rieves pitches to Bradford who has some room and makes the first down. Rieves keeps the ball on the next play and gains 7 yards. A fumble on the play gives the ball back to the Bobcats. With 7 minutes left in the game, Bobcats move the ball to the 33 yard line. Another flag that is picked up by the officials after consulting with the Bobcats coach. The quarterback is sacked by Shane Bitner for a 7 yard loss. 2nd and 17 for the Bobcats and Chris Williams, Shane Bitner and Wyatt Luebke stop the runner after 4 yards. Fowler covered the receiver and the pass is incomplete. Bobcats forced to punt. Gambler catches the ball at the 35 and another flag is down. Once again the flag is picked up. Dragons takeover at their own 40 yard line. Another flag called as false start against the Dragons, however the center didn’t have the ball. The offensive line holds tough and Dragons get the first down. Banks Phillips led the push for the offense. A 23 yard pass by Rieves to Dayne Van Camp brings them to the 1 yard line. The offense holds tight and on a 1 yard run, quarterback Jake Rieves scores the touchdown. The PAT is no good. The Bobcats get the ball back and Drew Boyd intercepts a pass to end the game. Final Score: Dragons 19, Bobcats 14. Jake Rieves had 89 yards passing and 121 yards rushing, D.D. Bradford had 49 yards receiving. The Dragons meet Star City on Dragon Field Halloween night at 7 pm.
