Fourteen 4-H members from the Spirit of ’76 4-H Club enjoyed doing a One Day of Service Project at the Extension Office on October 15. Members per-

formed community service by picking up limbs, pine needles and cones around the building. This project was done in conjunction with National 4-H Promotion Month. The meeting continued with the business session conducted by Destiny B., Club Secretary. Pledges were led by Jack W. New club officers were elected for 2014-15. 4-H members nominated themselves for office. The candidates then gave a short campaign speech before ballots were cast. The new officers are: President – Kaid N.; Vice President - Jeffrey V.; Secretary – Jack W.; Treasurer – Jacob W; Reporter - Peyton D.; 4-H Pledge Leader – Allie H.; America Flag Pledge Leader – Sara Z.; and Photographer – Allie B. An installation of officers’ ceremony will be held during the November meeting. Members discussed the County 4-H Convention with all members encouraged to submit an application for county officer. Roll Call during convention will be in the form of a cheer from each club. The club practiced their cheer: “Spirit Let’s Hear It.” All 4-H’ers enjoyed decorating a pumpkin as a craft project. Refreshments were provided by Jack, Jacob, Gregg and Peyton. The next meeting will be on November 19. Refreshments will be provided by Jeffrey, Emily, Sara, Hailey and Drew.

An open letter to the Citizens of DeWitt from Michael Burford CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR OF DEWITT PEOPLE PROCESS PRODUCT

Successful businesses, like successful communities, have the right PEOPLE, smooth PROCESSES, and great PRODUCTS! In DeWitt, we have great PEOPLE, however our PROCESS is broken, and our PRODUCT is lacking. We ALL know this. If we can’t be better, if this is as good as it can be, then PLEASE, could someone explain WHY it can’t be better? Explain it clearly and confidently in a way that we can understand and accept it. I was raised in DeWitt and attended DeWitt High School, graduated from the University of Arkansas Monticello with a business degree emphasizing in finance (Dean’s List student) and I am not ready to accept that DeWitt can’t improve. If you can’t accept it either, then vote for me for Mayor of DeWitt and work with me to improve our city. But most importantly VOTE! Thank you, Michael Burford

Remember: Everyone in the city votes at the Community Center on November 4th. Early voting now, on the Court House Square. Paid political ad by Michael Burford
