Project Awarded For Kirksville Median Access

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has awarded a project for a new median opening on US 63 a little over 2 miles north of Route KK near Kirksville. W. L. Miller Co. of Hamilton, IL was the successful bidder at a cost of $136,882.90.

MoDOT and its contractor will begin work this summer constructing a median crossover, and adding a southbound left

turn lane at Admire Evergreen located between MO 11 and Dogwood Lane south of Kirksville. The intersection improvements are part of a cost share with the business owners to provide an emergency turnaround and accommodate ease of access for its customers.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane northbound and southbound at various times while crews work in the passing

lane and median area. Construction equipment will be entering and exiting the work zone and motorists are urged to use caution and obey all road construction signs.

Home Circle Club The Home Circle Club met in June at the home of Nancy Belfield. Only six members were present and there was no pressing business to discuss, so instead of a regular meeting the group enjoyed an

afternoon Tea Party. Everyone admired Nancy’s beautifully remodeled home.

The July 18th Club meeting will be a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at a La Plata restaurant.

Sixty-six 4-H members representing all of the clubs in Macon County met on Saturday, June 15th at the First Christian Church to participate in the annual 4-H Achievement Day. Members competed in demonstrations, personal development interviews, 4-H royalty interviews, Fashion Review, table-setting contest, collection displays, team skill-a-thon and judging contests for all ages.

Several members participated in the judging portion of the day, placing and giving reasons why they placed the class the way they did. There were classes in several categories including cats, dogs, conservation and foods.

They will provide the meat, drink, and silverware, and the members are to bring a salad or a dessert. Shirley Smith, Program Chair, spoke of her love of flowers coming from her grandfather, and shared some remembrances of him.

Thirty-two 4-H members participated in the Table-Setting Contest where they set up a place setting in the correct form and with a theme of their choice and finish it off with a proposed menu to go along with the theme.

Winners include: 8-10 year old was Sheridyn Bealmer, 11-13 year old category was Anne Thomas and 14 and over was Rebecca Helton.

Members also brought in great collection displays. Winners for the 2013 contest included: Tanner Eymann for the 8-10 year old category, Timmy Johnston for the 11-13 year old category and Johnathan Walker in the 14 and older category.

The Skill-A-Thon contest requires a group of 4-H members to complete a task as fast as they can that includes great teamwork and involving each member of the group.

This year the groups were

asked to balance nine nails on one single standing nail and to work as a team to walk on plank boards around a course in the room. The winning team included Lydia Malloy, Zoe Isaacson, Libby Tull and Leah Erickson.

During the Personal Development contest, contestants go in for an interview where they talk to a judge and are scored on their introduction, attitude, personal appearance and interview skills. This year’s winners were 8-10 year old girl Ellie Mallett, 8-10 year old boy Davian Gall, 11-13 year old girl Kandace Inskip, 11-13 year old boy Caleb Bergfield, 14 and over girl Rebecca Helton and 14 and over boy Ben Nelson.

The public speaking contest consisted of technology assisted, interpretation, extemporaneous and public service announcement categories this year. Madeline Smith, Ben Nelson, Ryan Ancell, Ellie Mallett, Felicety Wilcox, Lydia Malloy, Lane Blackford, Kandace Inskip and Lauren Wilson were all selected to represent Macon County during the State 4-H Public Speaking Contest on the MU Campus in Columbia.

During the Fashion Revue portion of Achievement Day 4-H members can compete in the clothes construction category where they make a garment or the fashion selections category where they put together a stylish purchased outfit. First place winners for 2013 were Sheridyn Bealmer for construction 8-10 years of age, Remingtyn Bealmer construction 11-13 years of age, Rebecca Helton construction 14 and over, Sheridyn Bealmer selection 8-10 years of age, Kandace Inskip selection 11-13 years of age and Rebecca Helton selection 14 and over. These ladies will have the opportunity to represent Macon County at the State 4-H Fashion Revue Contest on the MU Campus in September.

Letha Arlene Newberry

Letha Arlene Newberry, 86 of Macon, Missouri passed away Saturday morning, June 29, 2013 at the La Plata Nursing Home in La Plata, MO. Letha was born on April 23, 1927 at Elmer, a daughter of Rado and Sallie (Griffin) Almond.

She was married on September 16, 1944 at Kansas City, Kansas to Hubert Vance Newberry, who preceded her in death on March 25, 1997. Letha was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Ronald Claire Newberry

on April 16, 1982; 3 sisters, Verna Easley, Anna Magers and Mary Rhoades; and 2 brothers, in infancy.

Letha is survived by a daughter and sonin-law: Sharon & Tom Shumaker of rural La Plata; 6 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: James Almond & wife Janet of Salem, MO; Johnnie Almond of Topeka, KS; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Letha was a graduate of Elmer High School and

had lived most of her life in Macon County. After several years working at the Heatube Company in Clarence, she retired in 1989. She then did volunteer work at Loch Haven Nursing Home and The Better Living Center in Macon. She had resided in Macon since 1980 and was a member of The Elmer Christian Church.

Graveside services and burial were at 11 AM on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at The Elmer Cemetery.

Members of the Atlanta Community Club met on June 24th with seven members present. A carry-in meal was served at noon, followed by the short business meeting. Virginia Grubbs, president, was in charge, hearing regular reports and discussions.

It was announced that the next meeting would be held on July 22nd. Following adjournment, the group spent the afternoon playing cards. Those present were Deanna Nichols, Clifford and Virginia Grubbs, Gene and Donna McClanahan, Betty Baker and Lila Wiggans.

Saturday morning, June 15, 2013, Callao Argonne Memorial Post 360 Commander Bob Maddox and grandson, Cameron Maddox, of New Cambria were part of the motorcycle escort for 120 members of the Missouri National Guard 1438th Engineer Company. The 1438th

were honored at the Macon High School football stadium prior to their departure for Afghanistan.

Family, friends, and local citizens – had a send-off ceremony with Missouri National Guard Adjutant General Steve Danner addressing the citizen soldiers before they left

for their year long mission. Auxiliary members gave each soldier a pocket flag and personal hygiene items. Following the ceremony the soldiers were bussed to the Macon National Guard Armory with a motorcycle escort by Patriot Guard and American Legion Riders.

Last week I took a few vacation days and spent some time with Scott in Columbia and my granddaughter and daughter who are home for a visit. Was a great week. Didn’t realize just how much I missed them until they got home.

The first night they were home Quinci Jo woke up in the middle of the night and found her way into my bedroom. I hated to put her in bed with memaw and poppie, was afraid she would get squished. She managed to survive but only because I slept on the very edge of the bed hoping not to fall off, with my arms around her so poppie wouldn’t roll over on her.

The second night, poppie had went back to work and Quinci Jo decided to sleep with memaw. She snuggled in so tight, again I didn’t sleep well, trying to hold on to her, this time so she wouldn’t roll off the other side of the bed. LOL, but each morning when she woke, she sat straight up in bed and said, very loudly and with a smile, “HI”.

Made me forget about not getting any sleep. I’d do it every night, but this means memaw and poppie need a King Size bed, as we have a grandson that very soon will be snuggling in with us. :) While spending time in Columbia with Scott, it made me remember “Man do I hate the City“. And when I tell you that I am moving south to be with him, please know that we will be moving to the country with some acreage. No town. No gunshots, unless someone is hunting. No loud music out the window. No hussle and bussle.

No one cutting me off on the road going home. I just don’t know how people do it that live in the city. I can drive it, just rather not.

And defiantly could not do it on a daily basis. Some of these people have some brass ones (you know what I mean).

JEFFCOAT is going to be great! I still get to talk with you on a regular weekly basis, and this way, LOL, you can’t talk back. Just kidding, I gave you my email and phone last week, so if you have any concerns or questions, give me a holler. I took a second part-time job in Boonville at the Casino, yup, instead of giving them money, I’m gonna get some of theirs and maybe yours. I am taking classes to be a Black Jack dealer.

Very cool! I thought I knew everything about Black Jack, but in only a few classes I have learned a lot! The best thing about this is that I get to see lots of people everyday, talk all day long and have fun, all the while making money!

What could be better than that? Plus, if you work there, you can’t play there, so I’m also saving money.

Hehe! So will have to venture to KC to play I guess and since I hate driving, probably won’t happen very often. But just imagine the stories I’ll have for my column.

Also hit a tractor pull while I was off, love watching Scott pull, makes him smile from ear to ear and that makes me happy.

That’s what it’s all about.

Being happy. Right? I mean you can work your rear end off everyday of the week, whether at work or home, but everyone needs a break and a hobby to enjoy. Scott’s is tractor pulling. That being said, we are looking for a sponsor..... anyone? LOL, all I can say is fishing is a cheaper hobby!! And you also get a free supper if you had a good day. :)Anyway, I am trying to enjoy the summer and hope you are as well.

Some years ago, we ordered some rose bushes.

They were hedge roses.

You could plant them to make a border or hedge around your lawn. I was reluctant to order them.

My wife and I have planted “tons” of roses with little success, but she insisted, so we sent for them.

The bushes arrived late in April, and we set them out behind our house. At first, they just grew and turned green. Through the long, hot summer, they had a few roses; and we were very pleased. “For once, we’ve been able to grow roses.”

When the frost came, we hurried and picked a bouquet. We thought, “This will be the last”.

Surprise! They blossomed more than ever. One bush alone had more than twenty roses.It was a forest of fragrant flowers. I loved it!

Mosquito Season

by Joe Koenen,Agri-Business Specialist, University of Missouri Extension One of the things that our weather pattern this year can cause is an increase in insects. Mosquitos are one of those insects that can and is a much greater problem in wet weather years such as this one.

Mosquitos are a pest to humans because they need blood meal for their young and so only the adult females actually suck blood, and primarily at twilight or just after dark. They breed in stagnant or slowmoving water so they have lots of breeding locations this year. They will breed in anything that holds just a small amount of water for a few days so figuring out where they’re breeding can be difficult to im-

Instead of Hi Ho Hi Ho it’s off to work I go, it’s Hi Ho Hi Ho it’s off to mow I go, boy with all the rain and high temperature that’s about all I have been getting done! How pretty my lady looks after the rains and “haircut”. Good ole’ Thomas Hill Lake is overflowing, you can’t see the beaches anywhere and our “Babbling Brook” has babbled so much she is in the yard and almost up to the side of the house. So much different than last year, when we was so dry!

Hey it’s Missouri weather, stick around it will change! hehehe The garden is thriving, incredible conditions for a GREAT garden.... onions, radishes and lettuce have been picked and used, fresh produce can’t be beat!

What about the Moon this last week? Beautiful beyond words, so large and brilliant in the sky, then the reflection on the lake was breath taking, no need for much lights while sitting on the deck, the moon did it all.

The baby eagle has been trying his new wings recently, you can go by the nest and see him sitting on the side just flapping his wings so fierce, he’s ready to go....no not yet....well let’s see, try again. How the parents teach their young is beyond comprehension to me, but they sure do! Anyone that believes in the statement that animals (all varieties) are dumb need to step back and watch, you will see that is a very false statement!

I so enjoy those of you that stop me on the street, in the store, or message me about my articles, it warms my heart to know that you take the time to tell me that you read and enjoy them. Thank you so much!

It occurs to me that human beings are much like flowers. Some of us bloom in the spring. We make our finest contribution in the early days of life or in the early part of the day. Some are like summer flowers.

They blossom in spite of the heat and drought, in spite of adversity. They work best at midday. Others bear their best fruit after the frost, after their hair is gray. They flourish in the late evening.

Maybe it doesn’t matter in which part of the day or in which part of your life you bloom best.

What matters is that we bloom and spread God’s loving fragrance with some portion of our life.

In his letter to the church at Ephesus, the apostle Paul suggests we live our lives as “sweet-smelling” sacrifices for God, i.e. like flowers. (Ephesians 5:2) Now, that is a good ­suggestion.

Cobb Potato Salad What You Need

3 lb red potatoes, cubed, cooked and drained 1/4 c red onion, diced salt and pepper, to taste 2 c mayo 1/3 c sugar 3 tbsp cider vinegar salt and pepper, to taste 1 c tomatoes 1 c bacon, fried and diced 1 c turkey breast or chicken breast, cooked and cubed 1 c hard boiled egg, peeled and diced 1 c avocado, cubed 1/2 c blue cheese, crumbles 2 tbsp scallions, diced (for garnish) Directions • In large pot of water cook potatoes until soft, not

mushy, drain. Add to large mixing bowl.

• In separate bowl, mix mayo, sugar, vinegar and season with salt and pepper, to taste. Add to potatoes, toss.

• Gently add salad to new bowl for cleaner presentation. Chill while preparing toppings. Note: I like adding about 1/4 cup fresh chopped parsley to mayonnaise mixture.

• Prepare topping ingredients. Remove salad from fridge and layer toppings in order of ingredient list (or to your preference).

• Chill for at least 4 hours before serving.

Notes: Make sure not to overcook potatoes. Potatoes should be soft but not mushy to point of falling apart.

Salad can be made day before, adding toppings next day. Stir well before adding toppings.

Holly and the residents gathered in the Community Room this afternoon for a time of fellowship and sweets! They enjoyed funnel cakes while catching up on the week’s events. The Shirley Tracy School of Dance students came over this evening and performed for the residents. These little ones were adorable and they can really dance!

Karl and Roberta Byers returned home Saturday, June 22nd from a seven day trip through Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana.

They visited Karl’s sister, Irma Holden and his high school buddy, Ken and Margaret Barker in Covington, Louisiana and then his brother Gene Byers in Mandeville, Louisiana.

On their return home they stopped and visited his other brother and sister, Thomas Byers and Helen and Philip Levatino in Yellville, Arkansas.

They traveled through some heavy rainstorms but no hurricanes fortunately.

This being their first trip back to the coast since Hurricane Kristina they saw numerous changes to how everything looked.

As always, they had a

good time but were glad to be back home.

On Sunday, June 23rd they were in attendance at the Koller Reunion held at the Comfort Inn in Macon.

There were over 75 in attendance so they enjoyed the fellowship of family and friends.

Sunday lunch guests of Marsha Hammons were, Ed and Beverly Rhoades, Linda Phillips, Delores Harpster, Carolyn Read, Julie, Sheridan and Dalton Howe and Elva Thorne.

Marsha Hammons had open-heart surgery on Tuesday, June 25 to replace the aortic artery.

She is doing very well and is expected to be released on Saturday, June 29. The visitors, calls and cards were greatly appreciated.

Large Crowd Gathered For OATS Open House In Macon

Hello everyone. Summer is rolling right along and June is almost over.

The big news in Clarence this past week was the Clarence Homecoming. If you missed it you missed a really good time. Everyone there had a really good time.

Wednesday night was family night and I went with my son Raymond, daughter-in-law Jessica and of course Norma and Bella Wood. It was a really fun night and the great attraction was the South Shelby FFA Petting Zoo. There were two St. Bernard puppies, and lots of other puppies, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, a donkey, and lots of other animals.

It was a lot of fun and us adults enjoyed it as much as the kids did.

Wednesday night was Children’s games, Natalie Hawkins, Tim Remole, KC Wolf and Lightswitch.

Thursday as the baby show, with babies from all over the area.

The Little Miss & Mr. Contest was won by Ashlyn Schaefer, daughter of Dustin and Amanda Schaefer, and Daniel Timbrook, the son of Keeven and Amber Timbrook. All the children who were in this are some of the cutest children you can find.

Later the Queen Contest was held and Victoria Carothers was crowned the 2013 Homecoming Queen. 1st runner up was Rose Masten, 2nd runner up Bailey Lake and 3rd runner up Jamie Corbin. All of these young ladies are very beautiful, and congratulations to all the girls.

Friday night Savannah Jack Nashville Country show preformed. Saturday was a full day of entertainment. That morning was Flea market booths, Kiddie Tractor Pull, Horseshoe tournament, Kiddie games.

At noon was the 9th Annual Antique Tractor Show and at two was the parade. I always love the parade and the winning float was

On June 12, OATS held an Open House to celebrate the completion of its new Macon facility at 3006 Jims Road, which houses the Northeast Regional Offices. A crowd of over 200 people was in attendance. Numerous representatives of federal, state, and local agencies and legislative officials were present at the ceremony.

Speakers for the event included The Honorable Dale Bagley- Mayor of Macon; Denise BennettDirector of Macon County Economic Development; Sharon Scott- Director of Macon Chamber of Commerce; Mokhtee AhmadRegional Administrator, FTA Region VII; Michelle Teel- MoDOT Multimodal Operations Director; Nolan McNeill- OATS Board President, Dorothy Yeager-OATS Executive Director and Sheree Webb- OATS Northeast Regional Director. Sarah Barfield-Graff from U. S.

Senator Roy Blunt’s office was also in attendance.

Mayor Bagley opened the ceremony welcoming OATS to Macon, “It’s great to have this facility and the service that it provides to our community, which is the most important thing.” OATS Board President Nolan McNeil thanked the riders who were in attendance, “You are the reason for OATS existence. We are glad you can stay at home, and happy we can help meet your needs that allow you to live independently. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and MoDOT provide the some of the support enabling us to carry out our mission.”

In his comments, Mokhtee Ahmad, Region VII Administrator for FTA, noted the words on the Macon water tower he read as he headed into town: Macon- A Wise Choice. “It was a wise choice to build a facility here, and I’m glad we were

able to make it happen.”

Michelle Teel, MoDot Director, added “The entire team worked tirelessly to make sure we used your tax dollars wisely. OATS is the largest service like this in the entire Country.

We will continue to work side by side with OATS to make sure transportation needs are met.”

Funds to build the new Macon facility were provided by the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 for a total project cost of $2.65 million. The OATS Northeast Region office oversees 16 counties in Missouri including: Adair, Clark, Knox, Lewis, Lincoln, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike, Ralls, Randolph, Schuyler, Scotland, Shelby and Warren.

The NE Region has 12 office staff in offices in Macon, Kirksville and Troy, 98 drivers, 235 volunteers and 135 vehicles.

After the parade was The Midwest Cowboys Rodeo presented by CYMO’s. This was a lot of fun for everyone. That night the entertainment was Rachel Farley. I was so glad my granddaughter Katherine Claus come over and went with me Saturday and got to spend the night. Of course all our nights had all the wonderful games and rides of Kenny’s Funland.

All in all it was a fun weekend and we all enjoyed. As always mine and Kenny’s favorite is the funnel cake.

New business:We discussed of exchanging white elephants for a gift exchange for Christmas. We voted on it and it passed. It will keep us from shopping and will be fun. No other business.

Penny drill was won by Carol Hays.

Jaunita gave a program on the Safflower. It was interesting and is a good flower for the Red Bird.

They are an annual plant and are good for protein in the fall for the Momarch Butter Fly. Jaunita told about the picture her husbands mother painted. Was very interesting.

A word game was played while the hostess prepared refreshments.

The Hostess served Cake,Ice Cream, Mints and nuts.

The next meeting will be at Irene Osborn July 15 2013

Heartland Headlines

We are sprucing things up around Heartland to get ready for our annual Open House celebration July 6th. One of the biggest projects is a fresh coat of paint for the water tower.

Our water tower with the lighted cross on top has become the emblem of Heartland. We have it in various logos and designs, and we all watch for it to appear on the horizon when we drive home from a trip. So, we are excited to see it shining brightly again.

I’m not sure our mama camel has enjoyed the process, though. She and her new baby are in the adjoining pasture. I’ve noticed she moves away any time a car slows down on the road, so I’m sure she didn’t enjoy the big rigs and cranes required for the water tower job.

She might as well get used to the commotion, though. We look forward to hosting lots of friends and neighbors in the next couple of weeks. We are praying for just enough rain to take care of the crops. And just enough sunshine to make it feel like summer. I hope you can join us for the fun!

Oklahoma Indians The Oklahoma Indians 4-H club met in the La Plata Presbyterian basement at 6pm on June 6, 2013. The meeting was called to order by Skyler. Pledges were led

by Tanner, Skyler, Sarah, Naomi, Elizabeth, Travis and Justin. Roll call was called by MaKenzie, 14 answered.

Minutes were read by MaKenzie, they were approved.

Treasurer’s report was given by Tanner. Our club will be taking our animals to the La Plata Nursing Home on Saturday, June 8. MaKenzie gave the MO State 4-H Congress report. Our club rescheduled the Steam Clean to June 21, Our club has 5 members volunteering to work at the Jackson Benefit on June 22, The Adair County Horse Show will be held July 13 at 4pm. The Adair County Dress Review starts at 5:50 at the Adair County Extension Center. Birthdays this month are Molly and Madison, Demos this month were: Travis - Casting can or bottle. Molly – Come snuggle up with me. Kirk – parts of a pump-action shotgun. Sarah – How to saddle a horse. Ben – parts of a weed-whacker. Elizabeth - How to hold a chicken.

Hannah - Animal vaccinations. Members have to get their projects registered before July 1, 2013. Members also need to be recording project meting in the green book! Our club projects will be judged July 15, 2013 at 11:15 am. All members present except Cordel, Lance, Trista and Madison. The next meeting will be held July 3, 2013.

COMMUNITY NEWS Pics From Atlanta Homecoming

The 2013 Little Mr. and Miss Atlanta were Logan Gladhill and Aislyn Bender!

Gene and Donna McClanahan spent their weekend sitting at the table where guests could enter for free drawings.

Macon County Historical Society Minutes President Ron Watts called the meeting to order. Kay Gilbert led the Pledge of Allegiance. President Watts announced that on behalf of the Macon County Shriners, Bill Franke had presented a donation of $1,000.00 to Macon County Historical Society. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Donna Gilbert. Minutes were approved as read.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Ruth Masten gave the treasurer’s report.

UPCOMING EVENTS: Doris Duckworth’s 1947 class reunion is scheduled for July .20, 2013 PAST EVENTS and UPDATES: Sally Watts reported that the Gold Star Families program had been given at MCHS with Jan Watts as the coordinator. It was very well received and will be on CUTV. The oil painting of Jack Lee was donated by the Lee Family and was acknowledged by several members as an excellent likeness. The artist is Nyle Gordon from Ethel, MO. President Watts announced that MCHS catered the Lion’s Club meeting. Harold Burkhardt, Huey White, Leroy Noble, and Ron Watts fried 40 pounds of potatoes and ten pounds of onions with Ron frying the fish and “the girls” providing salads and desserts.

Forty at the White reunion enjoyed barbecued brisket, cheesy potatoes, and berry cobbler. Salads were provided by several of the ladies, including new members Doris Riley, Cindy and Dennis.

Joe and Merlyn Amidei donated two rose bushes which have been planted in front.

Ralph reported that the Teter family had called that they wanted to tour MCHS Saturday at 11:00 am. Ralph contacted tour guides. Seventy-one people showed up for the tour and left at 2:30 pm. They took pictures of the sleigh that we had participated in restoring for them.

Another tour was for 100 Macon fourth graders. The group was divided into six tours with two groups on each floor which were then rotated. Ralph observed, “It was wonderful to see how well the children were disciplined.”

President Watts called upon other tour guides that day to comment on their experiences. Kay Gilbert said that this was her first tour, “And those kids carried me. The most often heard comment was, ‘My grandma had one of these.’” She continued, “Of course, they wanted to touch. If it was not advisable, I modeled putting my hands behind my back.” She concluded, “The students were wonderful and a lot of fun.”

Mardine White commented, “The tours were interesting and enjoyable.” Jack Lee stated, “I noticed a few days later that the same students came back with parents and grandparents. I didn’t have to talk very much then. The students did the talking.” Sally Watts told of one boy as smart as a tack who wanted to spend the day. “I really like this.” Then he asked, “Do you know about WWI?” President Watts reported that MCHS contacted all Macon County schools, but only Cairo and Macon have responded. “MCHS would be an educational and fun field trip when schools are so hard pressed for funds.” A student’s fatal accident was the cause of Cairo’s canceling, but Wade King has transferred to La Plata and hopefully he will be interested in bringing some of those students to tour next year.

President Watts stated that since last fall many donations have been made and need to be put away. Pat Kindle volunteered to help catalog donations. It is important if someone donates something that they can see it displayed. Sally Watts outlined the following procedure that Merlyn follows with donations: 1. Record donation in book.

2. Take picture of donation and enter into computer. 3. Display donation.

President Watts also announced that a high-level Marine, Roger Roll, has donated a whole pickup full of uniforms including sleeping bags and rain clothing. “He is not a local Macon guy having lived here only a few years and is moving back to Virginia. “ Harold Burkhardt said that Huey and Mardine got the WWI medical blanket hung.

Sharon Coram and husband Shon Coram announced that when someone renews their Home Press subscription, they may check to donate $2.00 to MCHC. Shon Coram said that he is a history buff and has things he wants to donate from the Civil War, and from Dr. and Clara Sharp, his grandparents. One item is a book on the 4th Iowa Cavalry. Sharon announced, “You have one $2.00 donation already.” Opal Harris stated that she was glad she had waited to renew and wanted to renew now. The calendar is on the newspaper’s web site.

President Watts adjourned the meeting. Refreshments were served. The next meeting will be at 6 pm on the second Thursday, August 8, at 6 pm.

Stefanie Colbrook & Ryan Easley Engaged

Brody, age 2 and Bella, age 4 enjoy homemade ice cream. They are the children of Aaron and Erica Baker.

Jay and Cheryl Colbrook are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Stefanie, to Ryan Easley son of Merlin and Annabelle Easley of Macon, Missouri.

Stefanie is a 2001 Nashville Community High School graduate and received a bachelor’s degree in advertising with a minor in creative writing from Southeast Missouri University in 2005. Stefanie is currently working as an account manager for Osborn Barr in St. Louis.

Ryan is a 1997 graduate from La Plata High School. He completed his undergraduate education at Truman State University in 2001 and received his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005. In 2009 he completed his residency in anesthesia at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis. Currently, Ryan is an anesthesiologist at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, Missouri. The couple plan to wed on August 17 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Nashville, Illinois.

Winner of his category was Richard Collier with his nice “ride”.
