HOLDS CUSTOMER APPRECIATION DAY!

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Heartland Tractor in Lamar served over 300 hamburger and hotdog meals at customer appreciation day on Tuesday, July 15.

Volunteers needed for Liberal Prairie Days LIBERAL-The Liberal Area Civic Group met Tuesday, June 17, in the Barton Community Room, with 16 members present. Amy Willhite, representing the Barton County Chamber of Commerce, was a guest. President Mary Toney called the meeting to order, with Sally Fast reading the minutes. Jacqui Nichols gave the treasurer's report, stating the checking account held $11,483.39 and a CD for $1,908.25. Tony reported there were 10 paid listings on the flyer for the community rummage sale and approximately that many sales which were unlisted. Lacey Miller provided assistance with creating the listing and map. A discussion followed with ideas to grow this project in to a bigger event in the future. Toney reported on the

flag retirement ceremony and thanked those that had orchestrated the event. Dana Meadows presented possible designs and colors for t-shirts. She will do further research regarding developing a logo before a vote is taken. Toney then gave roll call for the various events for Liberal Prairie Days, to be held September 19 and 20. All events were covered, but volunteers are still very much needed and appreciated to assist in staffing this busy weekend. The tent still has some time slots to fill, so everyone was urged to give Toney ideas by the next meeting. She then asked for candidates to serve as grand marshals. Sally Fast suggested the fire department, since this is their 50th anniversary of service to Liberal. Meadows seconded the motion and

it was passed unanimously. Willhite stated that the chamber had window space available in August and invited the civic group to decorate the space for that month. Brent Hanshaw stated he needed a bit more time before he could give pricing for the potential shelter at the south city park. Bill Keltner presented a photo of a gun that could be used for the gun raffle this year. It was the consensus of the group to print 150 tickets and sell each for $10. Tickets will be available prior to Prairie Days. Leota McClendon displayed the community quilt, which will also be raffled off during Prairie Days. The meeting adjourned to meet again on July 15.
