Miss Macon County Contestants Needed The 2013 Miss Macon County Pageant will be held Sunday, July 7, 2013. All young women between the ages of 17 and 22 as of September 1, 2013 are eligible to compete for the title of 2013 Miss Macon County. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship from the Macon County Town & Country Fair as well as other cash and prizes. The contestants must be residents of or attend school in Macon County. Contestants of the Miss Macon County Pageant must compete in the areas of interview, informal modeling, talent/speech,
formal wear, and public speaking. Entry forms may be picked up at either the office of Macon Co. Title & Escrow Services (1707 Prospect Dr.) or the Macon County Extension Office (514 E Briggs Drive, Ste D). Entries must be returned along with a $25.00 non-refundable entry fee to either location no later than June 10th, 2013. Anyone who is interested in competing and would like more information please contact Kerri Kempker at 660676-9873 before June 10th, 2013. The pageant is sponsored this year by the
Macon Women of Today and the Macon County Town & Country Fair. Macon Women of Today is a chapter of the United States Women of Today, which was established in 1985. The organization’s members initiate local community development projects, raise money and resources for local organizations, and participate in personal development activities and state and national partnerships. Currently, more than 3,600 women are members in 16 states across the nation.
BULLDOGS CAPTURE DISTRICT TITLE Joslyn West, who graduated from Macon High School in 2008, recently graduated from Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri. Joslyn received her Bachelor of Music Education degree on May 11, 2013. Attending the ceremony were her parents, Sharon and Shon Coram of Macon; Charles and Elaine West of Moberly, and Matthew Lay of Macon. Also in attendance were Joslyn’s aunt, Cheryl Baryo, and great-aunt, Joanne Higgins, both of Southeast Michigan who traveled by train to La Plata, Missouri. Prior to graduating, Miss West received and accepted a job offer as the Music Teacher and Band Director of Pre-K through 12th grade at Southwest R-1 in Ludlow, Missouri, which is southwest of Chillicothe, Missouri. She will be relocating to Chillicothe this summer to begin her new career in August. The La Plata Bulldogs captured the District Championship Title Tuesday evening, May 14, 2013 at the La Plata Sports Complex when the 3rd seeded team faced the 5th seeded team (Marion County) in the first place game. The Bulldogs won the game 13-1 after 5 innings and will move on to Sectional Play on Monday, May 20th.
