Correction

A headline featuring the Barton County Memorial Hospital Board meeting that ran in the Wednesday, March 5 Democrat was incorrect. In fact, it was totally opposite of what it should have read. It should have stated that “No expansion of Medicare will have negative effect at BCMH”. We apologize for the error and are happy to correct it.

Hoops for Heart fundraiser held at West Elementary

Right, Coach Harvey Fry congratulates Ryan Davis and Kaitlyn Davis, who finished in a tie for top fundraisers for Lamar West Elementary's Hoops for Heart program. The brother and sister each raised $1200 during the month of February, setting a new record. The previous record was held by Kaitlyn for the donations she raised last year. The funds raised by the school benefit the American Heart Association. Ryan is a student in Mrs. Weber's third grade class and Kaitlyn is a student in Mrs. Riegel's fifth grade class. Their names will be placed on a banner, which will be prominently displayed in the West Elementary dome gym during the school year. Congratulations to these true Heart Heroes!

Lamar West Elementary participated in the Hoops for Heart program during the month of February. The top three fundraisers, individually and by class, were recognized at an all school assembly on February 28. The class raising the most funds was Diane Riegel's fifth grade class, followed closely by Angela Weber's third grade class. Sherri Luce's fifth grade class finished in third place. These three classes will receive extra P.E. or recess time in the spring, as a special reward. Mrs. Riegel's students also got to design and color the facial hair of program coordinator Coach Harvey Fry. Pictured are, left to right, front row, Mason Bartholomew (third place top fundraiser); Kaitlyn Davis and Ryan Davis (first place tie for top fundraisers) and Elly Haun (second place top fundraiser); back row, Coach Harvey Fry and Principal Sharon Branham.
