John Wheeler, Executive Director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Lewis County announced that the county committee elections are in progress. Ballots were mailed to eligible voters and completed ballots must be returned by mail or to local FSA offices by Dec. 3, 2012. County committee members are elected to office by their peers and serve as the representative voice for agriculture producers in the county, and they are responsible for communicating with USDA to ensure that national programs are adapted to fit local needs. County committees are responsible for making decisions on issues including commodity loans and payments, conservation programs, disaster assistance programs and emergency programs. Wheeler encourages minority and female producers to serve as county committee members in the future. Farmers and ranchers who participate in FSA programs are eligible to vote. If eligible voters do not receive a ballot by mail, one will be provided by the local USDA Service Center. Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked no later than Dec. 3, 2012. New county committee members will assume their role and related responsibilities on Jan. 1, 2013. For more information on county committees, view the FSA website at www.fsa.usda. gov/elections or visit the Lewis County FSA office or call 573767-5274.

Ashton Luttrull School, signed a letter of intent on Nov. 14 to play basketball at Southeast Missouri State. Luttrull averaged 20.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game her junior season. She was named Clarence Cannon
Conference Player of the Year and was selected to the Class 3 all state team. An injury to her left knee kept her sidelined from the Lady Cougar softball team this past season and she will miss some of this season’s basket-
ball games. Highland Girl’s Basketball coach Brad Dance said, “It is an honor for Ashton and Highland High School to have her sign a Division 1 athletic scholarship to Southeast Missouri State. She is a great
young lady that works hard on the court and in the classroom and will have a great career at SEMO.” Ashton is the first female athlete in the history of Highland High School to receive a Division 1 Athletic Scholarship.
Redmon Selected For Advisory Committee Representative Craig Redmon has been handpicked by the Speaker of the House of Representatives to sit on the special Advisory Committee. This committee has been created to evaluate the effectiveness of other committees in the House of Representatives.
When meeting they will discuss all aspects of other House committees, including the placement of members, the chair and vice-chair, and if the committee is necessary. After discussing these issues, the eleven legislators will report their finding to the Speaker
who will then make decisions based off of the findings. Representative Redmon was very pleased to be selected for this committee, he thinks this is a great opportunity for Northeast Missouri to let their voice be heard in Jefferson City.
