Local Post Offices Hold Meetings To Discuss Schedule Changes BY RITA COX Reporter rita1@lewispnj.com

Several Post Offices in the county have meetings scheduled to hear community and business member’s comments about the upcoming changes in scheduling that may occur in their area. The US Post Office has had several budetary concerns over the last several years and plans to reduce the number of hours in many post offices across the nation. Many Post Offices have been closed or are scheduled to cease operations, especially in areas where there is a low volume of mail. The Postal Service has established a review process for certain Post Offices known as the Post Plan. Surveys have been sent to postal patrons about different options available to local post offices. The Postal Service is soliciting community input to determine the best corse of action for providing postal service to the following lo-

cal post offices. Meetings are scheduled on Oct. 15 for the LaBelle Post Office at noon, the Lewistown Post Office at 2 p.m. and the Monticello Post Office at 4 p.m. A meeting will be held at the LaGrange Post Office on Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. A representative from the Postal service will be available to answer questions and provide more information about the POST plan. At the meetings, local management will share the results of the survey, answer questions and solicit input regarding the time of day the Post Office will be open. The Postal Service reports that no decision will be made until after the local meetings are held. Members of the community interested in having an influence on local Post Offices should attend the scheduled meetings to voice concerns and ask questions. The Williamstown Post Office is scheduled to close on October 31.
