Don’t you just love taking a drive down an old blacktop or gravel road, just to view the country side, not knowing exactly where you will come out?
Macon County has a lot of those old roads that are perfect for some beautiful scenery. You never know what you may find in the middle of “nowhere”. Just West of Callao at the end of one of the curviest blacktop roads I have ever traveled sits the neatest getaway. Where the blacktop ends, just about a ¼ mile of gravel is an early 1900’s barn. You knew this old barn was a remnant of a working farm from years ago. I could just imagine the old homestead, a mother hanging laundry, children running around the yard, maybe chickens
and a few cows. A great vision of the past, before there was TV, video games and computers. I’ve always loved old barns and have taken many pictures of different ones I come across in the area. I just hate it when they are run down or fallen, a piece of history that can never be replaced. But this old barn was being remodeled. It had New Windows, roof, landscaping and a new graveled lot. It looked as though someone was making a home out of the See story on page 2A
