Mo Wine Please Announces Top Ten Mo Wine Please recently announced their top ten wines in Missouri. One of those chosen was West Winery in Macon, Missouri. According to their website: “We came across this gem on our way home from Kirksville. We never knew Macon, Missouri would be the home of one of Missouri’s best wineries. Downtown you’ll find an 1880’s building housing this urban winery. You may be in the middle of
the state, but this winery could fit in on Washington Ave. in St. Louis or on The Plaza in Kansas City. Modern and sleek with a highly-knowledgeable staff, West Winery is an experience every Missouri wine lover should try. They produce the wine in the back of their building, and we were lucky enough to meet the owner, Chris West, and do some barrel sampling. We were most impressed with their red wines, but enjoyed everything
we sampled. This winery really broke the mold and serves an impressive product. One word describes the wines we were privileged enough to indulge, Chambourcin!”

Macon Police Department’s Chief of Police Steve Olinger has announced the 2013 Officer of the Year. Chief Olinger awarded the officer a certificate of recognition in his office on 19 February 2014. The officer, André Williams, has been with the Macon Police Department since July 2012. Officer Williams was born and raised in Jamaica and came to the United States as a young adult. He aspired to be a police officer and earned US Citizenship in order to achieve his life dream.
Chief Olinger says, “André Williams has grown to be a very dependable officer and is eager to learn. André has never been afraid to step into a new case and put 100% effort into it. André has always been there for the department and volunteered to work an extra shift when help was needed. During some of our more complex investigations, André was always the first to offer assistance”. In the Fall of 2013, André volunteered to represent the Macon Police Department when the Northeast Missouri Major Case Squad was activated. He was one of several area officers who convened in Hannibal to investigate the death of an unidentified young lady found in the Mississippi River. As a patrol officer, all officers are expected to be active in their duties. André has lead by example for all officers. In 2013, André led officers in the amount of reports, calls and other officer-initiated activities in which the department keeps statistical data. Chief Olinger and the employees of the Macon Police Department would like to congratulate Officer André Williams as the 2013 Officer of the year award.
