By Kevin Brown The old Arkansas Petroleum gas station in DeWitt was the site for the launch of the first Farm to Fuel Project last Tuesday. The project is the product of two years of extensive research aiming to provide jobs as well as energy autonomy for the Arkansas Delta region. Farmers, entrepreneurs, VIPs, educators, advanced energy business leaders and community officials gathered at the first mini-biorefinery site for a press conference, tour and biofuel technology demonstrations and ribbon cutting ceremony sponsored by the Arkansas Advanced Energy Foundation and

alt.Consulting. Participants were introduced to key partners seeking to exhibit the economic impact the project could potentially have on DeWitt and the Delta region. Other events followed throughout the day, including a value chain panel discussion with panelists Mayor Ralph Relyea, Dr. Steven Green of ASU, Dr. Srikant Gir from the University of Memphis, local entrepreneur Johnny Davis and Dr. Glen Fenter, President of Mid-South Community College, a luncheon featuring Keynote Speaker and Delta Regional Authority Chairman Chris Masingill and a Camelina Growers’ Workshop presented

by the Arkansas State University Faculty. Johnny Davis will run the mini-biorefinery at the site. “The thing I like about this is it’s a renewable energy, the by-product can be fed to livestock and the oil can be processed into diesel. In the Delta Region, from here to Florida, there are Biodiesel created from used cooking fuel stations that can oil and crushed Camelina seeds. be doing the same t h i n g we’re doing. It just ne e ds someone to take the initiative and someone like alt.Consulting to push a little.”
