REC DIRECTOR APPOINTED DISTRICT REP Larry Clark, director of Lewis County Rural Electric Cooperative, Lewistown, was recently appointed as a district representative to the Member and Public Relations Committee of the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives (AMEC), Jefferson City. AMEC is the service organization of the state’s 47 electric cooperatives, which serve more than 560,000 rural consumers. As a member of the Member and Public Relations Committee, Clark will be concerned with activities developed to bring about an understanding of the rural electric program by the general public, electric cooperative members and employees. This includes review of AMEC’s award-winning statewide publication, RURAL MISSOURI. During the annual meeting, Clark was also appointed vice president of the Executive Committee of the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives (AMEC), Jefferson City. AMEC provides legislative, job training and marketing services to Missouri’s electric cooperatives and publishes the award-winning monthly publication Rural Missouri. AMEC is the service organization of the state’s 47 electric cooperatives.

Campers On Mission Volunteers Help LaGrange Baptist Church BY RITA COX Reporter rita1@lewispnj.com
Campers on Mission volunteers came to LaGrange last week to help work on the new First Baptist Church which is nearing completion. The former church building was damaged by fire in June of 2011 and a new church is being built on Route C in LaGrange. Campers on Mission (COM) is a national fellowship of Christian campers who share their faith and serve in various ways while they camp. Membership is open to Christian campers of all denominations, and there is no membership fee. Bob Simpson and wife, Vi of High Ridge Mo., said the group travels where ever needed, usually doing new
construction volunteer work, but their organization is also there to help with various projects as needed. The volunteer use their campers as housing while on a project. Most of the group are retired and had never been involved in construction before, they have a wide variety of former careers, but have learned new skills and provide some much needed support and manpower to complete a project. The groups have worked on youth camps, rebuilding, remodeling, cutting brush, and maintenance. Work can also include installing handicap ramps, roofs, etc. Some of the volunteers travel south for the winter and continue their missions in those areas. The

RECENT WEAPONS VIOLATIONS LEAD TO ARRESTS On October 7, 2012, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a male subject displaying a firearm, (shotgun) in a threatening manner. Upon further investigation, Hubert D. White, Jr., age 62, of rural LaBelle, Mo., was arrested on one count of unlawful use of a weapon, a class D felony. White remains lodged in the Lewis County Jail in lieu of a $10,000.00 bond. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. On October 11, 2012 the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a female subject
that Margaret A. Fountain, age 60, of rural Knox City, Missouri had displayed a handgun in a threatening manner towards. The victim reported Margaret Fountain pointed the handgun at her and threatened to shoot her. She also reported Margaret Fountain demanded money from her. Upon further investigation, Ms. Fountain was taken into custody on one count of Robbery in the First Degree, a class A felony, and unlawful use of a weapon, a class D felony. Mrs. Fountain remains lodged on one count of $100,000 cash only bond.
