Annual Toy Run
Cole’s Bike Shop hosted their Annual Toy Run on Saturday, October 26. The parade consists of bikers who are carrying new toys and non-perishable food pantry items. The parade began in Bevier and ended in Macon. The purpose of the event was to collect items for Macon County Ministries for the Santa Shop and Food Pantry. (photo by Jan Watts)

Bevier C-4 PTO Carnival was held on Friday, October 18th at the school. There were games, food, silent auction items, and entertainment for all. Prior to the Carnival, Elementary students were encouraged to sell raffle tickets for drawings to take place that evening. Through this classroom contest, over $1300 was raised to be used by PTO. The classroom selling the most tickets was fourth grade and third grade came in at second place. Pictured are the top four elementary sellers: Zoie Pipes, Jadyn Ridgway, Emma Binder, Leah Erickson. Also pictured are the top sellers from each classroom. Faith Hopkins, Kindergarten; Danni McVicker, 1st grade; Lanie Witt, 2nd grade; Emma Binder, 3rd grade; Zoie Pipes, 4th grade; Ashton Binder, 5th grade.
Rummerfield Building Renovation Uncovers A “Da Vinci” As Donnie Sizemore renovates the Rummerfield building, David Johnson is reminded of days ago when he was 15. Back in 1963 when it was Don’s Gift Shop the local teens started a fad of signing the back wall. They would get the enamel paint and a paintbrush from Don and immortalize themselves. Pictured is such wall. It’s like uncovering a fresco from Da Vinci! Less than 50 years of time remains the names of those spirited teens. This wall is a reminder of youth and days gone by. I can just see the teenagers dancing to the jukebox in the back; being “somewhat” rebellious (signing a wall) and thinking they had their whole lives ahead of them. Of the names some got married, some off to the war, some still around and some gone for today. What I can’t see is Don White giving a teenager a can of paint in his gift shop! In my days the gift shop side was off limits. He had a formidable rule of, “You break it - You buy it,” and he meant it. Only daring to venture in for Mother’s Day or Mom’s Birthday, but I sure do miss the other side hanging out after school with my friends, having a Cherry Coke with crushed ice and a honey bun. Again, a time of days ago. Thanks to David for sharing this little part of La Plata history that has remarkably stood the test of time. -Randy Bunch
