The Holidays Are Not Over!

Amelia Earhart Day - January 11

A group of 18 students and adult chaperones attended the Xtreme Youth Conference in Branson on December 27-29, 2013. The trip was organized and sponsored by Church WithOut Walls (CWOW) of Atlanta.

Performing artists included For King & Country, Third Day, Building 429, Jamie Grace, Skillet and Newsong. Speakers at the conference included the nation’s leading authorities on youth ministries including David Nasser, Ed Newton, Tom Richter and Tony Nolan.

Funding for the trip was provided by regular offering at Church WithOut Walls’ Life Group that meets at

Crossroads Christian Church in Macon.

The group also organized a homemade noodle fundraiser in October.

Aaron Baker and Nikisha Couch served as adult chaperones. The group stayed two nights at the Hilton Convention Center Hotel during the conference.

The following students attended the conference: Justin Bender, Tristan Collier, Austin York, Jeremiah Rhodes, Demetri Thomas, Kirsten Gilliland, Hope Walker, Danielle Welch, Julie Smothers, Melissa Falkiner, Katie Ogden, Tanner Smith, Javeen Collier, Lance Couch, Lexi Barnes and Caitlin Crockett.

were both baptized in the hotel’s swimming pool on the afternoon of December 28.

The group packed and ate meals like pizza and sandwiches. On the trip home, the group had lunch at a Mexican Restaurant in Ozark, MO. Church WithOut Walls’ life group meets on Sunday mornings at 10:00 A.M. for donuts and Bible Study at Crossroads Christian Church in Macon.

Moberly Area Community College recently announced the fall 2013 President’s and Dean’s lists.

One hundred seventyseven (177) students obtained a 4.00 grade point average in six or more semester hours for the fall 2013 semester, qualifying them for the President’s List. During the fall 2012 semester, 184 students qualified for the President’s List.

Two hundred eighty-six (286) students qualified for the Dean’s list by obtaining a GPA between 3.50 and 3.99 in six or more semester hours for the fall 2013 semester. During the fall 2012 semester, 303 students qualified for the Dean’s List.

a seasonal worker at the District Two Sign Shop facility. He would continue to work seasonal, but would then be hired on full-time as a maintenance worker in January 2007. Two years later, he would be promoted to an intermediate maintenance worker. When MoDOT reorganized in 2011, Charles moved to the New Cambria Maintenance facility as an intermediate maintenance worker, the position from which he retired.

After retirement Charles

plans to do volunteer work at the local food pantry and his church. He also is looking forward to be able to dive more into his hobby of amateur radio.

Charles and his wife Marilyn currently reside

in Macon, Missouri. They have two children: Nathan Roberts of Columbia, MO, and Jill (Clay), and her husband Tony, of the United Arab Emirates.

They have also been blessed with 4 grandchildren.

Troop B is seeking interested junior and senior high school students of good character to apply to participate in the program. In order to provide a quality educational experience, the program will be limited to 20 students. Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, is pleased to announce Troop B will be conducting a two-day Student Alliance Program.

The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity for current junior and senior high school students to learn more about law enforcement and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The 2014 Troop B Student Alliance Program will be conducted at the Troop B Headquarters in Macon, Missouri, on two consecutive Saturdays (March 15, 2014 and March 22, 2014) from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Participants must provide their own transportation and will be on their own for a lunch break each day. During the program, students will participate in a variety of educational activities intended to familiarize them with Highway Patrol operations and equipment. Some of the

One summer the raccoons were destroying the plants on our deck. We couldn’t have any flowers in the yard because the deer ate them, so I moved our flowers to the deck.

Now the pesky raccoons were getting on the deck and digging up the flowers.

I covered the dirt around the plants with wire, but they still dug them up. I covered the wire around the plants with rocks. It didn’t help; they still dug them up. I don’t know what they were eating, but they were destroying our plants.

I borrowed a trap from the Conservation Department and caught one raccoon each night for three nights. Each morning I carried the angry little bandit across the Chariton River and turned it loose.

Then, the raccoons got smart. They turned the trap over and got the bait.

I fastened the trap down so they couldn’t turn it over, and they reached in and retrieved the bait through the little holes in the wire trap.

I left for the weekend with the trap set; but since it had no bait, I didn’t think it would be a prob-

Happy New Year to everyone! Pray that 2014 will be all you want it to be.

It hasn’t started out well for some I know. My second cousin, Billy Bridwell, Jr. wife died on January 2 after a month illness that they never seem to figure out. Her name was Marilyn and they lived in Arizona near Phoenix. Billy has distant relatives here and his mother grew up in Elmer and La Plata as a child, many years ago. She is Delora Montgomery Bridwell and she lives in Scottsdale, AZ. My brother, Donald (Lefty) St. Clair of Marceline, a 1954 graduate of La Plata is in the hospital at Boone County since January 2.

Lester Eugene Grimes

lem. The next day my wife called and said, “There is a raccoon in your trap”.

“It can’t be”, I answered.

“There was no bait in the trap.”

“Oh, yes”, she replied.

“There is a raccoon in the trap, and he is hot and very angry.” She definitely was not going to take it across the river to set it free. In fact, she was not even going near the trap.

I thought, “Now that is one unlucky raccoon. He was caught in an unbaited trap. Everyone knows raccoons are nosy. He was obviously just nosing around and got caught. Even his timing was bad; he got caught when there was no one there to set him free.”

That is what happens when you are nosy. You learn things you really do not want to know and soon find yourself in a trap. Do you admit what you know and reveal you are a snoop, or do you pretend you don’t know and live a lie?

Most of us have enough work to do in our own lives without snooping around in others. Jesus taught his disciples it is best to deal with the log in your own eye before attending to the speck in your neighbor’s eye.

March 25, 1939 - December 13, 2013

September 10, 1932 - December 27, 2013

Larry Parker Homes, son of Parker and Grace (Wood) Homes, was born March 25, 1939 at Kirksville, MO. He grew up on the family farm near La Plata and graduated from La Plata High School in 1957. He attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) at Kirksville, Mo. Following his graduation in 1961 he began his 37-year career as the business education teacher at Montezuma Community School, retiring in 1998. He earned his Bachelors and his Master’s Degree at N.E.MO State Teachers College. He attended University of Iowa two summers toward a Doctorate Degree and one summer at N. IL University, DeKalb, IL He worked over 25 summers as a crop hail insurance adjuster. After retiring from teaching, he became an assistant for funerals at the local funeral home.

In the year 2000, he was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. With characteristic determination and dedication, he faithfully went to the GRMC Fitness Center five to six days a week for a rigorous workout to keep his lungs in the best condition possible. At the fitness center, he developed close friendships with staff and other patients.

“Mr. Homes” was highly respected for his professionalism as a teacher, and many of his students became his close friends as adults.

The faculty he served with was one of his many circles of friends. He looked forward to the retired teachers’ monthly get-together.

While he was never married and had no children of his own, in Montezuma Larry formed such a bond with certain individuals and families that he has become regarded as a member of their families.

He loved children and they in turn adored him. A favorite topic for him was sharing stories about humorous moments with his friends’ children and three young boys to whom he is known as “Neighbor Larry.”

A man of faith, Larry was an active member of the United Methodist Church, where he has been finance chairman for several years.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and an active member of the Montezuma Lions Club, serving in every office of the club. He was a recipient of the Lions Club’s prestigious Warren Coleman Award.

He was a devoted son, caring for his parents in their final years.

His father lived with Larry in Montezuma during his last years. His father’s dog, “Festus,” became Larry’s special pal.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include a sister, Marlene (and John) Barnes, Ft. Madison, Iowa; a niece, Angela Barnes and son Jack Matese, West Burlington, Iowa, and a nephew, David Barnes, Morning Sun, Iowa; also a cousin, Dianthe (William) Cable of Kirksville, Mo. and their daughters Krista Llewellyn and Sara Cable; and cousin, Julia Mae Wyatt, and sons, Danny, Darrin and Donnie of Macon, MO.

Lester Eugene Grimes, 81, of Columbia, MO, passed away December 27, 2013.

Lester was born September 10, 1932 in Phenix City, Alabama to Gordon Grimes and Carrie Harris. He was a 1950 graduate of Oakland High School in Oakland, CA. Lester married Bonnie Faye Hickam in Chula Vista, CA on December 19, 1953, and she preceded him in death on July 4, 1991. Lester Served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Greenfish and was a Korean War veteran. He was a lifetime member of the VFW 280. Lester enjoyed westerns and sports, especially Cardinals baseball.

In addition to his wife, Lester was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Sherrill Grimes.

Survivors include, one daughter, Terrie Grimes, of Columbia, MO, one son, Michael Grimes (wife Julie) of Columbia, MO, one granddaughter, Marrisa Grimes, and five great grandchildren, Hannah, Kaelyn, Avery, Faith, and Gracie, all of Columbia, MO.

Robert Perry McMorris

May 16, 1933 - December 20, 2013 Robert Perry McMorris, age 81 of Louisiana, Missouri passed away Monday December 30, 2013 at the VA Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Born May 16, 1933 in Madison, Missouri he was the son of Fred and Beatrice (Haley)McMorris.

Surviving are six children, Steve(Carol) McMorris of Bowling Green, Missouri, Barbara Magers of La Plata, Missouri, Brenda (Carl) Nutt of Vandalia, Missouri, Randy McMorris of Auxvasse Missouri, Jim (Deanna) McMorris of Vandalia, Missouri, and Gary McMorris and friend Shannon of Beaumont, Texas, one brother Curtis(Roberta) McMorris of Columbia, Missouri, two sisters Shirley Herron of Moberly, Missouri and Wilma Ashworth of Columbia, Missouri, seventeen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Mark McMorris on May 25th,2012 and David McMorris on August 20, 2000, one granddaughter Robin McMorris on September 21, 1987.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Madison Community Building at 11:00a.m. with visitation from 10:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. Burial will be at a later date at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, Missouri.

Atalpal II met December 12. 2013 at 4:00 P.M., at a local restaurant, with seventeen members present and Becky Deskin as a guest. President Peggy Loe opened the meeting with the pledges to the flag of the United States of America, and to the flag of the State of Missouri.

The November minutes were read and approved.

Shirley reported the bank balance, with debits to Cindy Moore for a library book in memory of Betty Forbes, and the money spent on a school child for Christmas.

Communications - None, Old Business - Our sponsored child was a boy.

Peggy and Paula bought underwear, pajamas, socks, sweatshirts, jeans, a shirt, cap and gloves, and some toys. Members wrapped the presents after the meeting.

Sandwiches, chips, and Red Velvet cake were served. The hostesses placed Christmas Tree shaped dishes as centerpieces, filled with assorted candies, and had cups with divinity candy and other candy at each place setting.

Bingo was played, with the winners selecting prizes from wrapped White Elephants that each member had brought. Each person opened their prize separately, so everyone could enjoy what was inside. Some were useful, some were funny, but all were given in the spirit of Christmas.

Commissioner Alan Wyatt absent due to the flu. Commission met with road supervisor, Chris Waddle to discuss various road & bridge projects. County Clerk, Shirley Sims, swore in Jon Dwiggins to be the interim presiding commissioner in the absence of Commissioner Wyatt. Accounts payable reviewed and approved. Jennifer Wilson, with nFORM Architecture, called in regards to jail/courthouse complex. David Akins met with commission to discuss progress on Bronco St. John Hall called concerning a bad tube and hole in the road on Fire Fly. Dwayne Thrasher met with commission concerning building of a new swine farrowing facility on St. Hwy. 3 where a current operation is located.

Noyes Bakke met with commission about dozing brush along Jasmine Ave. Mr. Bakke signed a dozing agreement. Sheriff Shoemaker met with commission to discuss personnel positions. Ron Watts with MoDOT met with commission to discuss Star Bridge Project and future BRO bridges. Brian Hafner presented the commission with a brochure, A Vision for Missouri’s Transportation Future. David Hamilton with Great Rivers Assoc. met with commission to discuss possible bridge project. Meeting Adjourned.

On 12/09/13 at approximately 7:00pm, two victims entered the Macon Police Department to report an assault had taken place in the 300 block of Butler Street prior to the victims’ arrival. It was reported by the victim that an altercation occurred between several individuals during which time a 216-year old victim reported their glasses and cell phone were damaged.

Officers investigated the incident. As a result, police arrested a 43-year old white female for assault, endangering the welfare of a child and property damage. A 50-year old white male was also arrested for assault. Both suspects were processed at the Macon Police Department and

were later released pending a municipal court date.

On 12/10/13, an officer of the Macon Police Department served an active arrest warrant upon a male subject in the 1400 block of North Missouri Street.

Police arrested a 28-year old white male of Macon on the active warrant for driving while revoked. The suspect was transported to the Macon Police Department where he later posted bond and was released pending a future municipal court date.

On 12/13/13 at approximately 8:00am, a Macon Police Officer served an active arrest warrant upon a female suspect for failure to appear on traffic violation. The female suspect was transported to the

Randolph County Jail to be held in lieu of bond.

On 12/13/13 at approximately 11:34am, a victim reported to the Macon Police Department that damage had occurred to the victim’s property in the 200 block of North Rollins Street. Upon arrival, it was reported by the victim that they heard the sound of breaking glass and looked outside to see two suspects throwing snowballs at the building. The victim stated the two suspects then got into a car and drove from the area. A partial description of the suspects were obtained, however, officers were unable to identify or locate the suspects. Damages are estimated at approximately $75.00. This case remains under inves-

tigation at this time.

On 12/15/13 at approximately 8:45pm, the Macon Police Department made enforcement contact with a vehicle in the 1700 block of North Missouri Street after receiving a complaint from a concerned citizen of the driver’s condition.

As a result, police arrested a 61-year old white male of Chillicothe (MO) for driving while intoxicated. The suspect was transported to the Macon Police Department for processing and was later taken to the Macon County Jail to be held in lieu of bond. The suspect later posted bond and was released pending a municipal court date.

A criminal charge is merely an allegation and the defendant.

CLARENCE CHRONICLES Well Happy New Year to everyone. I don’t know about you but the year went really fast and I do not know what happened to 2013. It was great having a white Christmas and the whole season having snow but we have had enough and it is snowing now.

How do we cancel the snow?

Sunday the 22nd we had a Christmas dinner at our home. Guests were Raymond and Jessica Wood and daughters Norma and Bella. Derek Wood and Kaylee Claus.

We had a wonderful dinner and spent the afternoon exchanging gifts and visiting.

Wednesday, Christmas day we joined our daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and John McMurry at their home in Atlanta.

Others present were Derek Wood, Laura Wood, Kaylee and Katherine Claus, and Mitch Christen all of Callao, Amanda and Steve Bachesta of St. Louis and Justin and Krystal Williams and children Cole, Allie, and Blake of Macon. Bonnie and

John serve a wonderful Christmas dinner and we spent the evening visiting and exchanging gifts.

John is a professional photographer and he took lots of family pictures.

Thursday afternoon I went to Callao to visit my daughter Laura. She is in the process of redoing a big beautiful house that used to be a bed-andbreakfast. I helped her do some wallpapering. The house will be restored to its former glory when they are finished with it.

Sunday morning I went to Sunday school and church. So many of the retired couples are going south for the winter. I know the warm climate would be nice but I would miss home.

Today Raymond and Jessica Wood and Norma and Bella came up for a

Patty Truitt visit. I have spent the last few days taking down all the Christmas decorations that were so much fun to put up six weeks ago.

Today Raymond and Jess put what we had boxed up the last few days in the attic for us. Thank you so much.

Like I said we have to take down all that great stuff we put up a few weeks ago. So we put up: 1-Garland on the stairway, 2-Tablecloths, 3-Cinnamon Candles, 4-Nativity Sets, 5-Golden Bows, 6-Christmas pillows, 7-Santa figurines, 8-Avon Plates, 9-Christmas Trees, 10-Holiday Movies, 11-Christmas Bows and 12-Strings of blue outside lights. So have lots of fun.

Tuesday morning, the Home Baked Love cooking class made Coconut Cream Cake. After lunch, Holly and the residents celebrated during their annual New Years Eve party.

I really find it hard to believe 2014 is upon us but it is anyway. I know several of you make New Year’s resolutions but since I don’t I would like to discuss some things you as a farmer/landowner need to think about for 2014.

(1)Begin or upgrade your estate plan.

Farmers and landowners have more complex estate/succession planning requirements than others. I can tell you personally of the cases where something happens before someone plans and those stories aren’t good. If you haven’t got started planning, what are you waiting for?

None of us (yes me included) are getting any younger and death is inevitable so planning is critical. Remember we are having an estate planning class beginning January 14th in Unionville and Kahoka among other places.

(2)Check or review important risk management tools. There are multiple things that help you with risk management, including insurance, records, marketing and leases just to name some. If you haven’t looked over or reviewed these in the last year or two, now is the time. If things have changed in your operation, they may need updated.

Don’t put that off.

(3) Keep up with technological and educational needs. Farming (gardening too) has technology that you can use be it computerized (apps, etc.) or new varieties or others. There are also many educational opportunities through University of Missouri Extension and others to keep you up-to-date so take advantage or fall behind. You can go to www.extension.missouri.edu/putnam to get a list of events and classes coming up.

(4) Maintain accurate records for yourself and the IRS. Business records are first and foremost for your benefit and use to look at how your business is doing. However, you also must keep them for federal and state taxes. Keep in mind that you may have someone else do your taxes but you are responsible for what goes in them. Production records are very important too.

Missouri Rural Development State Director Janie Dunning announced a series of broad changes to the Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan Program. This program is a popular loan program for rural homebuyers. The changes are part of an extensive overhaul that will strengthen rural housing markets, increase the availability of rural home loans and spur the construction of new homes in rural areas.

“Access to adequate housing is as crucial to rural community and economic development as access to adequate utilities, such as water and broadband. Without quality housing stock available in communities, rural areas cannot sustain themselves,” Dunning said. “These proposed changes will assure those seeking housing in rural areas are provided the opportunity to purchase a home. The changes offer an expanded range of financing options for lenders.” In Fiscal Year 2013, 5,916 Missouri families purchased homes through the Single Family Housing Guar a n t e e d Loan Program. This resulted in an investment of $650,687,121 in rural communities throughout the state.The proposed changes were published in December 9, 2013 Federal Register. They take effect Sept. 1, 2014 and make several improvements to the guaranteed loan program.Among other things, the proposed changes expand the types of lenders who are eligible to participate. With the rule change, any lending entity supervised and regulated by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the National Credit Union Administration, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Federal Reserve Banks, or the Federal Housing Finance Board may underwrite loans guaranteed by Rural Development.

This will enable many small community banks and credit unions to participate in the guaranteed loan program. Currently, these entities are not eligible lenders. In another policy change, for the first time, borrowers will be able to choose home loan terms shorter than 30 years. This will result in a significant cost savings for borrowers who qualify for the higher payments and who want to pay off their loan faster and pay less interest on their loan. Additional program improvements are: •Lenders may consider a home’s energy

efficiency as a compensating factor when underwriting a mortgage application. Energy efficiency is an attractive feature for homebuyers and sellers. Energy efficient homes help the nation lessen its dependence on foreign oil and result in lower utility costs for homeowners. Lower utility costs also improve the local economy by directly increasing consumers’ disposable income.

•Lenders and borrowers no longer will be required to initiate separate construction and permanent loans for new homes. Instead, there will be one closing for one loan, known as a construction-topermanent loan.

•Lenders will be required to consider foreclosure prevention techniques such as loan modifications and short sales.

Currently, lenders are “encouraged” but not required to do so.

•These changes will be fully outlined in a new handbook to accompany program regulations. The handbook will provide a single reference point on program rules for borrowers and lenders. It will replace more than 20 administrative notices that are written separately and must be updated annually.

Proposed change details can be found on page 73927 of the December 9 Federal Register. USDA welcomes public comment on the changes. The deadline to submit comments is January 8, 2014. Vilsack said maintaining programs which promote homeownership and affordable housing is another reminder of the importance of USDA programs for rural America. A comprehensive new Food, Farm and Jobs Bill would further expand the rural economy, Vilsack added, saying that’s just one reason why Congress must get a comprehensive Bill done as soon as possible. President Obama’s plan for rural America has brought about historic investment and resulted in stronger rural communities. Is Your Home Ready for a Power Outage?

Being prepared for winter means more than just stocking up on Vitamin C. It also means making sure your home is ready for the onslaught of cooler weather and potential power outages.

Whether it’s just windy and blustery, or there’s an ice storm or blizzard, wicked weather can cause all sorts of damage or power outages.

One of the most important things you can do to ensure a safe, happy and healthy winter is equip your home with a portable generator, which can serve as a useful back up during an emergency or when a power source isn’t available.

Don’t forget, with great power comes great responsibility.

When using a generator, keep these tips in mind: • Always read and follow the manufacturer’s operating manual and instructions before running a generator.

• Engines emit carbon monoxide (CO), a colorless and odorless poisonous gas. Don’t run a generator inside homes, garages, crawlspaces, basements, sheds, or similar areas, even when using fans or opening doors and windows for ventilation.

Locate the unit outside and direct its exhaust away from doors, windows, vents and other openings to reduce the risk of CO from accumulating and potentially being drawn towards occupied spaces.

Install a CO detector in your home.

• Connect electrically powered items to the generator using heavyduty extension cords specifically designed for outdoor use. Ensure the wattage rating for each cord exceeds the total wattage of all appliances connected to it. Check that the entire length of each cord is free of cuts or tears and that the plug has all three prongs. Coiled cords can get hot, so always uncoil cords and lay them in flat open locations.

Connections for standby power to a home’s electrical system must use a listed transfer switch and be installed by an electrician. The connection must isolate the generator power from the utility power.

• Get the right generator size for your needs. For example, a 5500 Watt Portable Generator is ideal for powering a small appliance and a few household items, whereas the Briggs & Stratton 6250 Watt Storm Responder,

Dangerously cold temperatures and the wind chill factor make being outside and traveling perilous. The Patrol is encouraging everyone to stay inside and off the road. If you must travel in these conditions, please keep the following in mind: Before you travel, gather an ice scraper, tire chains, battery booster cables, flares/reflectors, blankets, gloves, flashlight, and a bag of sand or kitty litter to place in your trunk.

Also, ensure your cellular phone is fully charged and functional. Take bottled water and a snack with you. Emergencies cannot be predicted, but planning ahead can help you if one

should arise.

Make sure your vehicle is in good condition with proper fluid levels and at least a half tank of fuel. Keeping your fuel tank at half full or higher prevents gas lines from freezing and will allow you to run the engine and keep warm while waiting for assistance should you become stranded. Allow extra driving time for you to reach your destination at a slow, safe speed.

Remember: Missouri law states if you’re using your windshield wipers, your headlights must be turned on. It takes only a second to turn on your vehicle’s headlights. That second could make you more visible to other drivers and prevent a traffic crash.

If your vehicle slides off the road, stay with it. Other vehicles could put you in danger of being struck if you are outside your vehicle.

The Seibert Club The Seibert Club of La Plata, Missouri, met Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at the home of Leila Ward. She had her home decorated for the Christmas season.

Irene Osborn, President, called the meeting to order. All signed Christmas cards for our “Ladies of Loving,” which Dora will send out. Roll call was “My favorite Christmas ornament.” Some told about their favorite ornament(s) while others brought a favorite to show. Several would have brought fragile ornaments but decided not to since there was ice under foot in some places and they didn’t want their ornament broken.

Under Old Business, the November minutes were read Kathy East and approved and Leila gave the Treasurer’s Report. It was reported that the Nursing Home Birthday Party went well. We thanked those who took care of the event since several of us were out of town on that day.

Under New Business, the list for hostesses, etc. were passed out and filled in.

Irene gave the paper stock for the book covers, Roll Call subjects, and hostess lists to Kathy so she could have them printed for the January meeting. It had already been decided the officers would remain the same and this was agreeable to everyone.

Money was collected for

the Treasury and Christmas cards were exchanged by those in attendance.

The Club Collect was repeated by all.

Irene Osborn was in charge of the program, “Moments to Remember in History.” She related many interesting and unusual facts.

Leila had everyone count the number of “Santa’s” in the living room, dining room, and kitchen. She actually had a total of 47!

Leila had made a wreath for the prize and it was won by Dora Lovingier for coming the closest.

The Christmas gifts had been numbered and were passed out to those who had the corresponding number. They were opened in number order and everyone received very nice gifts.

The meeting was adjourned and the hostess served delicious refreshments from her lovely decorated dining room table.

There were small chicken salad “cups”, candies, other delicious “Christmas goodies”, and various beverages! Several recipes were also shared. The rest of the afternoon was spent visiting The January 16, 2014, meeting place will be announced and Kathy will be the hostess. Roll Call will be “One thing I would like to do in 2014,” and Leila Ward will be in charge of the program.

Proven skills in the management of staff, organization of membership and public relations is highly desired.

A college degree or an equivalent combination of work experience and education is preferred.
