Heart of Missouri Gymnastics Competition

On Saturday, February 1st, CW2 Michael Blaise of Macon will be honored for the ultimate sacrifice he made while serving his country in Iraq. Michael was a pilot in the United States Army and was killed in action while flying over northern Iraq in January 2004. A ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Colonel Blees Armory in Macon to dedicate the interchange on U.S. 63 in Macon as “Heroes Way” in Michael’s name. The ceremony will include the unveiling of one of the signs that will be placed on the roadway. The public is invited to attend. The Heroes Way designation program was established in 2009 to honor those Missouri residents in the armed forces who were killed in action on or after September 11, 2001 in either Iraq or in Afghanistan.

Public Meeting

A public information meeting will be held at La Plata City Hall located at 113 S Gex, La Plata Missouri on January 31, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. to discuss a loan/grant application for a track loader to be purchased by La Plata Promotional Committee. The loan and grant combination is through the USDA Rural Development. Anyone with questions or comments should feel free to attend.

Severe Weather Training

Severe Weather Spotter Training and Awareness Night February 10th at 7PM, Expo Center, Macon The training will start at 7PM. Guests will include forecasters from the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, MO as well as Macon County Emergency Management Director, Michael Shively speaking about new warning capabilities upcoming for the Office of Emergency Management.

The Long Branch Area YMCA Gymnastics Team attended the second Heart of Missouri Gymnastics Competition of the season at Jefferson City on January 18, 2014. The team was split into two groups and competed separately due to the vast number of gymnasts attending each competition. Danielle Theurer coaches the team with assistance from Hannah Hartung and Jeana Noel. The team competed in four events against six additional teams from across the state and earned recognition in all levels. Team competitors include Madie Ewing, competing in Level 4, taking 3rd place on uneven bars, 2nd place on vault and 1st places on balance beam and floor. Madie also took 1st place in her level/age group for her “All Around” score. Elise Nelson of Macon, competing in Level 3, earned 2nd places in the events of vault and floor, 3rd places in the events of uneven bars and balance beam and took 2nd place for her “All Around” score for her level/age group. Millie Gough of Shelbina, competed in Level 3 earning 2nd places on balance beam, uneven bars and floor, 1st place on vault and took 2nd place for her “All Around” score for her level/age group. Jaley Hayes of Macon, competing in Level 3, took 2nd place on vault and 1st place on floor in her level/age group. Jarah Wilt of Shelbina, also competed in Level 3 and took 3rd place on floor for her level/age group. Alyssa Maples of Macon, competed in Level 2 and earned 1st places on balance beam and uneven bars, 3rd on floor and took 2nd for her “All Around” score in her level/age group. Asa Fanning

of Macon, took 1st places on balance beam and floor, 3rd on vault and placed 3rd for her “All Around” score in her level/age group. Tierney Fouch of LaPlata, competed in Level 2 placing 2nd on uneven bars, 2nd on floor and placed 3rd for her “All Around” score in her level/age group. Brooklyn Anderson of Macon, competing in Level 2, also placed 3rd on vault, 2nd in both balance beam and floor, 1st on uneven bars and took 1st place for her “All Around” score in her level/age group. "REMEMBERING OUR FALLEN" at Macon Public Library. We hope everyone will take the time to stop in to see this emotional display and to pay respect to these young men and women that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Over 140 Missourians were lost in the War on Terror. This will be on display Jan. 21 to Feb. 1, 2014. There is no admission charge. The exhibit is open to the public during regular library hours. (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10 am to 8 pm and Wednesday 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday 10 am to 3 pm) See Page 2 for more information.
