Lady Bulldogs – 2012 North Shelby Tournament Consolation Trophy Winners.
The La Plata Lady Bulldogs fell in the first round of the North Shelby Tournament, on Saturday, Sept. 8, to Paris (9-1) but battled their way back with wins over Marion County (5-2) and Linn County (15-0) to capture the Consolation Title! Undoubtedly the highlight of the tournament, besides capturing the consolation trophy, was the no hitter tossed by Makay Belt in the 15-0 besting of Linn County in the consolation final.
Earlier in the day, The Lady Bulldogs defeated perennial powerhouse Marion County 5-1 to advance to the consolation final. With La Plata leading 3-1 Tyra Douglas blasted a fastball to right center field to drive in both Kalie Lene and Elizabeth James who had back to back singles to lead off the fourth inning and seal the win. Jessica Davison also added a single in the inning for her Lady Bulldogs. Pitcher Belt got into trouble in the last
inning as Marion County rallied and loaded the bases but Belt and her infield’s defense shut down the threat with two strikeouts and a harmless pop up to shortstop Taylor Snodgrass. In the opening round against Paris, and trailing 7-0 late in the game, LaPlata rallied with back-to-back-toback singles by Kalie Lene, Sam Jett and Morgan Kimmel with Kimmel registering the run batted in. The rally fell short though and La
Plata fell to the eventual third place winning Lady Coyotes. Congratulations to Coach Ken Jett, Assistant Coach Steve Lightle and the 2012 North Shelby Tournament Consolation winners: Makay Belt, Erin Boren, Elizabeth James, Molly Safley, Taylor Snodgrass, Katy Mills, Alex Carmack, Tiffany Easley, Morgan Kimmel, LaDonna White, Jessica Davison, Tyra Douglas, Ally Gregory, Sam Jett and Kalie Lene.

A crew from Macon Electric Cooperative returned from the Baton Rouge, LA area on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Three linemen and one truck operator from MEC left Macon on Thursday, August 30, 2012 and rallied with employees from other cooperatives all over the state of Missouri to help restore power in the aftermath of hurricane Isaac. The Macon Electric crew assisted Dixie Electric Membership Corporation (DEMCO), based in Greenwell Springs, LA. At one point, more than 55,000 of DEMCO’s 98,000 members were
without power. One of the seven principles that guide all cooperatives is, “Cooperation among cooperatives.” The idea being, cooperatives join forces and work together, especially during times of need. This is not the first time a crew from Macon Electric Cooperative has traveled to assist another cooperative’s efforts to restore power to their members. In recent years, MEC crews have helped following several hurricanes and ice storms.
