Traffic Stop Turns Into Manhunt

MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT NEAR GOLDSBERRY SENDS MAN TO HOSPITAL According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol a Moberly man Cisimir Shimke, age 35, was involved in a motorcycle accident in Macon County on Highway 149 near Goldsberry late Friday, August 3, 2012. Shimek, was traveling northbound when he tried to avoid small animals in the roadway and while attempting to do so, he fell off of his motorcycle. Shimek was transported to Samaritan Hospital in Macon with moderate injuries.

On Tuesday, July 31st a traffic stop was conducted on Highway E, north of La Plata. After the vehicle was pulled over the suspects fled resulting in a manhunt for the two fugitives in the area of the Santa Fe Lake in La Plata. Drugs were also found in the vehicle. One individual was found and arrested on the property of Allen McElhinney. Jeffrey Sharp, 31, of Kirksville, was arrested and was also wanted on a Macon County warrant for a felony charge of receiving stolen property. The charge was filed after several stolen items were

discovered at a residence Sharp was living at in La Plata. Sharp is also facing felony charges of second degree assault and resisting arrest by fleeing in Adair County. He was released from custody on his own recognizance, in connection with that case on May 21st. Sharp remains in the Macon County Jail under $50,000 cash only bond. He is scheduled to make an appearance in Macon County Court on Thursday. He is set to appear in Adair County Court on Monday.

The second individual is still at large and the Macon and Adair County Sheriff Departments are asking for you to beware of strange people in your neighborhood and looking suspicious. The manhunt lasted all day on Tuesday and the Adair County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the La Plata Police Department, Macon County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, K-9 units, and a helicopter using a brush heat sensing unit and a fixed wing aircraft.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 10:53 pm, a 2002 Chevorlet Trail Blazer, driven by Ashely Simpson, age 24, of Marceline, MO was westbound on Rt. JJ just 2 miles West of Marceline when she crossed the center line and struck a 2004 Chevorlet Impala driven by Zachary Cupp, age 17,

of Bucklin, MO. Simpson’s vehicle came to rest off the north side of the roadway facing south as the Cupp vehicle came to rest on the south side of the roadway facing southwest. Simpson was transported by Linn County ambulance to Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield, MO with mod-

erate injuries. A passenger in Simpson’s vehicle, Katrice Sartain, age 27, of Marceline, MO was also transported to Pershing Memorial Hospital by Linn County Ambulance for minor injuries. Zachary Cupp was transported by Life Flight Eagle to University Hospital in Columbia, MO where he was pronounced de-

ceased. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Simpson was arrested at 12:01 am for 1) Felony-Vehicular Involuntary Manslaughter while intoxicated; 2) Failure to drive on right half of roadway resulting in an accident. This is Troop B’s 23rd fatality accident of 2012.

TWO ARRESTED FOR METH IN MACON Friday August 3rd, 2012 at approximately 5:30 p.m. Macon County Sheriff’s Office Deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant in the 1200 block of North Ruby St. in Macon. While searching the residence for the original suspect deputies detected a strong chemical odor coming from the residence, deputies also found visible evidence of methamphetamine production. Deputies applied for and received a search warrant for the property. Deputies located an active meth lab along

with evidence of multiple meth cooks and ongoing production inside and outside the home. Robert E. Lawson, age 41, of Macon was arrested for Production of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine (RSMo 195.211), Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia - Meth (RSMo 195.233). Lawson remains in custody at the Macon County Jail unable to $150,000 cash only bond. Sheriff Dawson said “While conducting the search warrant a subject known

by the deputies to not have a driver’s license was observed driving by the residence. Deputies conducted a traffic stop, and located methamphetamine in the vehicle.” Jason Brower, age 35, of Macon was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Valid License (RSMo 302.020) and Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine (RSMo 195.202). Brower was processed at the Macon County Jail, and posted the required $10,000 surety bond.
