National Wildlife Refuge Renamed in Honor of Senator Dale Bumpers

ANNUAL KIDS FREE FISHING DERBY

The Annual Kids Free Fishing Derby sponsored by DeWitt High School East Lab, in cooperation with AGFC, and the Grand Prairie Ruritan Club will be April 26 at the DeWitt City Park lake. Registration will begin at 8:30 with fishing from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Promptly at 11:00, all hooks out of the water for weigh-in and awarding of prizes. Kids must be 15 or younger to participate. No entry fees. Come out and enjoy this special day of fishing fun for the entire family at DeWitt City Park.

After several recollections and humorous anecdotes, his son took the podium and delivered a heartfelt acceptance speech for the renaming. Born August 12, 1925 in

Charleston, AR, Dale Bumpers represented the state of Arkansas as its 38th Governor followed by a four-term stint as a U.S. Senator. He attended the University of Arkansas, served in the Marine Corps during World War II and took a law degree from Northwestern University. As U.S. Senator (1975-1999), Mr. Bumpers served on the Appropriations Commit-

tee, the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and chaired the Small Business Committee. He was instrumental in the addition of 41,000 acres to the White River and Cache River National Wildlife Refuges, and as Governor, aided in the ceasing of channelization of 232 miles of the Cache River and its tributary, Bayou DeView.
