March for Meals I Serve a Risen Savior Local Meals for Seniors By Pastor Steve Ellison

Every year Meals on Wheels America kicks off its annual fundraising effort called March for Meals during the months of March and April. The DeWitt Senior Citizen’s Center hosts fundraisers in the spring to help fund the meal program. Meals on Wheels delivers a nutritious meal, a safety check and the smile that serve as a lifeline to homebound and socially isolated seniors. This combination of services goes well beyond fighting the battle against hunger that threatens one in six of America’s seniors – it provides the support and peace of mind that enable them to remain safely and securely in their own homes as they continue to age. For the eighteenth year, the Feinstein Foundation of Rhode Island has pledged to make a $1 million donation to be divided among the hunger-fighting agencies across the nation. This foundation is dedicated to help fight and offset the reduced funds that our centers are seeing. This year the DeWitt Senior Center is raffling tickets for a fundraiser to one big collection of items donated by local businesses. You may donate to the raffle or make a donation to the fundraiser itself. It is tax deductible. All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Meals on Wheels program. For more information about how you can donate to this fundraiser or the services offered by the DeWitt Senior Center, call 870-946-1196.

In 1933, A.H. Ackley wrote, “I serve a risen Savior; He’s in the world today. I know that He is living, whatever men may say. I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer, And just the time I need Him, He’s always near. He lives, He lives! Christ Jesus lives today!... You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.” Our experience is a wonderful proof that the tomb is empty and Christ is alive and well today. His presence in our lives affirms that truth. The fact that we were radically and permanently changed when we were converted is very good evidence that Christ is risen. In addition to our personal experience with the risen Christ, the Bible also provides evidence through eyewitness accounts. 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 summarizes the resurrection appearances of Christ and indicates the significance of His resurrection, “I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.” (NASU) If each of these eyewitnesses were given 15 minutes to testify it would take more than five whole days around the clock to finish the testimony. Many of these eye-witnesses were still alive when 1 Corinthians was written. The fact that these eye-witnesses did not dispute Paul’s account is great evidence that Christ lives. Furthermore, 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 declares that the testimony of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection was of “first importance”. 1 Corinthians 15:14-19 further emphasizes the significance of Christ’s resurrection, “If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.” (NASU) Those are strong words. If Christ is not resurrected, we are false witnesses and our faith in Christ is useless and we are not forgiven of our sins. If Christ is not resurrected, we should be

LOCAL NEWS pitied more than anyone else. Aren’t you glad for the evidence in your heart and for the solid testimony of so many eye-witnesses? If you do not have personal experience to verify Christ’s resurrection, will you take the word of these eye-witnesses and put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation? Your sins can be forgiven and your place assured in heaven only by God’s grace and your faith in Jesus Christ alone. Romans 10:9 states it very plainly, “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (NASU) Will you trust Him today? Happy Easter. pastorsteve8800@gmail.com Thank you so much to all my friends and family who were there for me during my surgery and since my return home. It’s so nice to know people really care. FAITH & RELIGION

A Thought By Michael P. Daniel “The same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the religious leaders, Jesus came and stood in the midst and said to them, ‘Peace be with you’. When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. So Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you’. And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained’.” John 20:19-23 NKJV “He is risen!” The familiar Easter mantra. It is what we celebrate. That which we usually refer to as “the final resting place” (the grave) is apparently not so final after all. Jesus was killed, He was buried, and then He was raised from the grave. The fat lady has not yet sung! Still, what does it mean to us? There are theological and doctrinal answers as to what we are told it is supposed to mean, but that does not answer what it actually means to the individual. Depending on whom we

ask, we will get all kinds of answers; but it usually falls on the side of “excuse”. “It means I don’t have to go to church.” “It means I don’t have to obey The Lord’s Law.” “It means I don’t have to do the religious thing.” “It means I don’t have to do anything I don’t feel like doing.” The tiresome list goes on for us, and it is all true; we don’t have to do anything. Yet the disciples were not given much time to come up with their list of things they no longer “have to” do. Hiding in fear for having been associated with this “blasphemer”, these guys were not thinking of lists. In their fear they were trying to process what Mary Magdalene had come from the empty tomb to share (John 20:18). Just as they were trying to wrap their minds around Mary’s report and all they had likely heard also from Peter and John, probably asking themselves what it all means, Jesus showed up and told them exactly what it means: “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” With the Gift of the Holy Spirit and authority from Above to deal with the real power of sin, the Church has been so commissioned. Not “these guys” or “some

Dark Nights and Singing Birds By Tom Smith This past week as I ran around the base track at 5:30 in the morning, it was still dark outside and my heart was heavy for various reasons: others’ suffering . . .the world’s condition... recent deaths of some dear friends and co-workers, etc. As I trudged around the track, I felt “heavy” all over. My legs felt heavy. My body felt heavy. My mind felt heavy. And, my soul felt heavy. But, then I heard a bird singing nearby in the top of a tree in the darkness. Since I don’t speak Birdenese, I couldn’t tell why he was singing. However, to me it was evident he wasn’t too concerned about hawks, cats or not being able to find a worm for breakfast at daylight. He was simply singing. And, suddenly, there on the track the Heavenly Father whispered to me, “Never forget, My dear child, My Eye is still on the sparrow—and I’m still watching over you.” Even though my gait didn’t quicken much, my heart did. The Lord reminded me that’s it good for me to be concerned about others; however, it becomes an unnecessary sin when I feel like it’s up to me to bear those cares—especially when He’s said to “cast all your cares upon Me, for I care for you” (I Peter 5:7). Likewise, He reminded me of Jesus’ blessed Invitation to “come unto Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and I’ll give you rest” (Matthew 11:2830). Simply put, in the midst of our sorrows there is a Friend Who’s “well-acquainted with our grief ” (Isaiah 53:3). In fact, He also “has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows” (v.4). Therefore, there’s no need for us to labor under them any longer. He will bear them and He will bear US, for His “underneath are His everlasting Arms” (Deuteronomy 33:27). Hallelujah!! Oh, dear Reader, life is sad. Incredibly sad. Everywhere we look we see those who are suffering. Struggling under a weight of grief or guilt. And sometimes that “someone” is us. Like the Apostle Paul, we sometimes feel “pressed

out of measure (squashed), beyond strength (depleted), insomuch that we despaired even of life itself ” (II Corinthians 1:8). But, it was in that time that he realized (and so should we) that “we have the sentence of death in ourselves that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God Who raises the dead, Who delivered us from so great a death and does (still) deliver. . .” (II Cor. 1:9a). Yes, within each of us there is a “death sentence.” Like a man sitting on death row, we know our days here are numbered. We know the Death Angel will one day come knocking at our door. However, we shouldn’t fear that Day—not when the One Who conquered death and the grave lives within our hearts. A thousand times no! Instead, we should remember His Promise to “never leave us or forsake us” (Hebrews 13:5). Truly, He is “the Friend that sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24) and “a very present Help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). Because He (Jesus) lives, as the song says, “I can face tomorrow. Because He lives all fear is gone. Because I know Who holds the future, my life is worth the living—just because He lives.” Amen and amen. How thankful I am for the bird singing in the darkness. He reminded me of those truths and why I should share them with you. Here’s hoping they helped. So, remember: even though you have a death sentence within you, you also have a “Life Celebration” when you remember Who walks with you and what He’s preparing for you later on. Truly, in Christ, the Risen Lord, we can have “Life and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10b). Glory! Have you heard a bird singing in the darkness lately? Maybe it’s time you started listening. guys” – THE CHURCH, the Body of Christ! According to the One who had been sent, all who claim allegiance are so sent. It is past time to get over this notion of what The Resurrection means to “me”. One’s personal witness, while important but when separated from the whole of the Church, becomes disconnected from the “Vine” (John 15:5). Once the “branch” is completely disengaged from the Body (the “Vine”), it begins to wither and can no longer bear “fruit”. We have not been saved from anything (even though we are “being saved”, 1 Corinthians 1:18); we have been called to something much greater, much bigger than self, much more important than simply “me”! Jesus was no “lone ranger” nor was He seeking “lone rangers”, so we should not fool ourselves into believing we are a church unto ourselves. There is so much more for us, but we have to want it enough to reach for it. So reach! Blessings, Michael

WEEKLY SERMON

The Apostle Paul Said, “Follow Me.” By William Wood

Most church people know that the apostle Paul wrote most of the New Testament. And we know that Paul was once so against the Man Jesus Christ that he had made it his no. one goal to stamp out His Followers and heir teachings about Jesus. We also now know that although Paul was a high ranking official in the Jewish church, he was not a Christian until his encounter with Jesus on his road to Damascus. It was after that experience that God began to teach Paul His Word. From a murderer of Christians to a man that God used to write most of the New Testament is no small charge! His change was sudden and drastic. So much so that the Jews he had been working with, to stop the Christians, now turned on him, and was trying to kill Paul! By a revelation from God Paul now knew that the man that he had thought was an imposter, and had been born out of wedlock, and considered by the Jewish church to be a bastard child, was in fact God’s Christ, sent to die for the sins of mankind! But as has always happened before, the church natural (religious but not saved) rejected the truth! In prayer recently, I began to wonder how the churches of DeWitt would receive Paul’s teaching if he should come here for a revival. As I considered this question I was made aware that most of our churches would have a problem with a lot of his doctrine! And so my thought was to present Paul’s teaching by quoting the Scripture for it, then see how many of us would book Paul for revival in our church. And so in the beginning of his teaching I will state a doctrine that would keep him out of some of our churches. Gal. 1:8 “But though we or an angel from Heaven preach any other Gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed?” Paul’s teaching on Christians morals has not been changed, and will never be! We will all be judged by it at White Throne Judgement! So now we will set forth some of that teaching, to see if we would want him to preach us a revival! In our Trinity churches he would preach One God! 1ST Corinthians 8:4 “ _ _ _ there is none other God but one.” In our Baptist churches he would preach that you did not necessarily receive the Holy Ghost when your sins were forgiven! He would ask, “Have you received the Holy Ghost “since” you believed?” (Acts 19:5) “When they heard this they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.” Then in Acts 19:6 they received The Holy Ghost when Paul laid his hands on them. We are out of space, but we will continue Paul’s revival message next week. God is looking for churches that will receive Paul’s teaching. We want to find out what our church would do with his doctrine, that he said not even an angel could change it! If Paul was in DeWitt and meeting with our pastors and elders concerning a meeting, he would repeat his words in 1st Corinthians 11:1-2 “Be ye followers of men, even as I also am of Christ. Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances as I delivered them to you.” Tune in next week to read more of his ordinances. Amen

Human Remains Found By Terrye Seamon Human remains were discovered Thursday off Highway 1 in DeWitt. Bill Sadler, public information officer for the Arkansas State Police said, “Special agents of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division were requested to respond Thursday, April 2 to a location near DeWitt where human remains had been discovered.” According to Mayor Ralph Relyea, the remains were found by surveyors in the vacant lots near Farmers

and Merchants Bank. No positive identification of the body has been made yet, and details concerning the cause of death have not been determined. Another complication in the identification process is the fact that, according to Relyea, no missing person reports have been filed in the area. Sadler said that the remains, which appear to be those of a male, were taken to the Arkansas State Crime

Laboratory in order to determine the identity and a possible cause or manner of death. Concerning the suspicion of foul play, the mayor said, “There are no indications one way or the other.” As to the specific details of the remains and how long the body had been in the lot, Arkansas County Coroner Cooper Essex said, “It [the details] will all be determined at the crime lab.”

Circuit Clerk Office Applies for Record Preservation Grant By Terrye Seamon Winston Churchill once said, “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” Due to a possible grant from the Arkansas Association of Counties, Arkansas County’s land and deed records restoration project may soon be completed. Arkansas County Circuit Clerk Sarah Merchant applied for the grant after the Arkansas County Quorum Court approved the application process March 10. Merchant explained that the process usually takes approximately a year from start to finish, and the grant will not be awarded until October. If Arkansas County receives the grant, the funds will be used to digitally preserve the remaining 216 record books of the Northern district. All of the land and deed records for the Southern district of the county have already been digitized. “Once we get these 216, all of Arkansas County land records will be digitized,” Merchant said. Merchant has applied for the grant every year since 2009, and with the exception of 2014, the county has received it every year. “I am so thankful. We have been so blessed to have this resource,” the circuit clerk said. According to Merchant, the process is easier if the county applies for the grant in phases instead of

asking for the entire amount at one time. Each grant Arkansas County has received has been approximately $20,000 and used for setting up the computer operating system and digitizing the records. “Since we have gone into scanning, we do not [keep] physical books anymore. We were running out of room,” she said. Other than these grants from the Arkansas Association of Counties, Merchant explained that the only other financial assistance for preservation has come from donations from the Arkansas County Records and Preservation Committee. They have organized and sponsored several fundraising activities and letter writing campaigns in order to help raise money. “The people of Arkansas County are really conscientious about our historical records, so we have had a really good support base over the years. We have been able to do a whole lot as far as restoration with our records just from those donations,” Merchant said. Merchant further explained that donations from the records and preservation committee have been utilized by her office as well as the county clerk’s office for restoring marriage, will, probate and county court records. Since the Arkansas Association of Counties Grant is not a resource that is available to

the county clerk’s office, and the land and deed records restoration project is almost finished, Merchant said, “We are starting to shift those funds [from the Arkansas County Records and Preservation Committee] to the county clerk’s office more because I have more restoration already complete.” Since Arkansas County is the oldest county in the state and both offices have records dating back to 1808 when the capital was still located at Arkansas Post, Arkansas County Clerk Melissa Wood’s job of restoration is far from complete. “We have restored the oldest records here, and the oldest records in Stuttgart,” Wood said. She explained that although the earliest records from the early 1800’s to 1927 have been preserved, they have not been digitized. She went on to say that the county’s current records from 2013 to the present have been digitized. The county clerk noted that the cost of restoring just one of the records books is approximately $2,500, and all the funding has come from the records and preservation committee. “None of this preservation project has been grant money,” Wood said. A social fundraising event, “A Night in White,” is currently being planned, but an exact date has not been announced yet.

your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you” (John 13:13-15 NKJV). Jesus also said, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me” (vs 8b). This act of humility and submission is not about condoning or embracing lifestyles we deem objectionable. It is entirely about what lies before us. It is an anointing of the disciples to “do as I have done to you”. Our mission is in the hospitality of the Covenant we claim to believe and embrace. “For whatever you do to the least of these, you do to Me”. It is not about political or social objections; it is about genuine religious devotion and appropriate expression. This week especially, it is about being mindful of what is unfolding in the Passion of the Messiah, what Jesus believed necessary to leave with and entrust to us. To be clear, I am opposed to same-gender marriage within the

I look forward to reading the news regarding your family and friends! Contact Darla Grantham, P.O. Box 324, Gillett, AR 72055, call (870) 548-2850, or email dgrantham@pccua.edu. ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT Menard Heritage Park was the setting for Gillett’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. Over 100 kiddo’s joined the

Easter Bunny and Easter Chick for a fun-filled Saturday afternoon on April 4, 2015. Everyone enjoyed cookies, punch, and hunting Easter eggs! The Gillett Civic Group and City of Gillett would like to thank everyone who came out and all of those participating in the afternoon to make it a complete success!

An Anointing

By Michael P. Daniel This familiar passage is the account of Jesus washing the feet of His disciples. They are gathered in the Upper Room and are preparing for the Passover, but Jesus does this foot washing thing first, this act of complete humility and submission in order to show that “a servant is not greater than his master, nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him” (John 13:16). In other words, Jesus says, ‘If I can do this thing, you can do no less’. In the midst of Holy Week when we should be focusing on Jesus’ final days on this earth, it is a crying shame that Arkansas Christians have gotten entirely too caught up in the political and social upheaval caused by the controversial

SB 1228, “The Religious Freedom Restoration Act” (it is not important what I think about the bill. If you care to know what it actually says, read it for yourself). It has been approved by the Arkansas Senate and is currently making its rounds in the Arkansas House. The governor has expressed his intent to sign the bill (pending some fixes), and there is much “wailing and gnashing of teeth”. It is written in the Proverbs, “Sometimes there is a way that seems to be right, but in the end it is the way of death” (16:25). To refuse commercial service to same-gender couples based upon religious objections to their lifestyle is a sticky wicket. Even though the propri-

etors of commercial ventures may be religiously devout persons, they may still face legal challenges because of the commercial nature of their business. This, however, is not the challenge we should be so concerned with. Rather the real challenge is in Jesus’ act in today’s Gospel reading. To reserve the right to refuse service to anyone based on one’s own religious ideal is dangerous territory especially in the context of the Gospel reading. Peter thought he had the right idea when he tried to resist Jesus’ act, but in fact he missed the point entirely. “You call Me Teacher and Lord and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed

Church because I believe the Scriptures and the Spirit, not the interpreters with a “progressive” social agenda or a false notion of “love”. If this makes me a narrowminded, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, sister-marrying backwoods hick in the sight of others, so be it. This is not to say, however, that I will refuse to allow anyone to worship or receive the Sacraments of the Church nor will I refuse to serve anyone a plate at the church potluck because I find their lifestyle objectionable. To do so while overlooking my own sin, the other idolaters, adulterers, fornicators, and gamblers, is to miss the “baptism” which comes from Jesus’ desire to serve “as an example”. It is about neither condoning nor condemning. It is about Christ and the “example” He gave us not by telling us what to do but by showing us how to do it and why. If we do not get that, no legislation will help.

On Saturday, April 11th, Arkansas Post Museum State Park will hold a “Spring time on the Prairie” Festival from 10 am until 2 pm. Demonstrations of old-fashioned skills and ways will be stationed throughout the park. Visitors will be able to experience a variety of historically based programs such as Dutch oven cooking, corn shelling and grinding, fur trading, wash day, old-fashioned children’s games, primitive hunting, butter making, seed planting and much more. “There is no better way to experience what life was like on the south end of the Arkansas Grand Prairie than this festival”, says Maria Jackson, Museum Program Assistant. “Kids of all ages will be able to explore the past through these hands-on activities. We invite everyone to come out and help us celebrate spring on the Grand Prairie.” For more information on this festival or any of the museum’s upcoming events, please call the museum at (870) 548-2634. Arkansas Post Museum State Park is located six miles south of Gillett and fourteen miles north of Dumas on Highway 165.

In advance of the Summit of the Americas to be held in Panama, Hillman urges opening Cuba’s markets ALMYRA, ARK. - As we learn of the President of the United States preparing to meet with the President of Cuba later this week at the Summit of the Americas to be held in Panama, Arkansas State Representative David Hillman (District 13, Almyra) released the following statement: “On a beautiful day like today it would be a nice to visit the white sandy shores of Cuba if we were allowed to do so. Seriously, any day is a beautiful day to open our agriculture markets to the untapped potential of those in Cuba. Cubans prefer our rice to Asian rice. Doesn’t it make sense for us to trade with Cuba? It makes both dollars and cents. Trade with Cuba might not only be good for the Arkansas farmer and the average Cuban citizen, but once they see how we live Cubans may want to see changes made in their own country. It could be a win for everyone if we put our partisanship away and do what’s best for both of us. We can’t make up for fifty years of bad policy but we can go forward with good policy that everyone can be proud of.”

What More to Give - or Take?

By Michael P. Daniel “I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax; it has melted within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue clings to my jaw. You have brought me to the dust of death. Dogs have surrounded me; the congregation of the wicked has enclosed me.” Psalm 22:14-16a Do you ever have those days when, no matter how right you try to do, someone seems determined to undermine you? Or you make an honest mistake, and you are still raked over the coals? Even in the church, those whom you thought to be your fellow workers and friends turn on you and seem to go out of their way to make sure even those outside the Church should come and try to get a piece of you? In nearly every church across the land, there are what are known as “clergy killers” who come in many different forms. It seems to be their lot to make life and ministry for the pastor as miserable as possible. It doesn’t really matter whether there is a particular issue at stake for the church. It is the “clergy killer’s” mission in life to make the pastor’s life as uncomfortable

as possible – and often for reasons not fully known or justified. Sadly, very often the church remains silent, figuring it’s none of their business – or in the vain hope it will go away. Yet it is not just clergy and family who suffer. The entire church suffers when that “killer’s” friends pretend allegiance to the “killer” by refusing to participate in the life of that particular church, but the reality is they are staying away because of the toxicity advocated and joyfully spread by that “killer”. They cannot be sure whether or when that “killer” will turn his or her guns on them! Sign up for that?? Only a fool would knowingly and willfully walk into such a poisoned environment. By now Jesus is facing the very same thing. Those who were once His “friends” have become “killers”. Not the religious leaders who were never His friends nor the secular authorities to whom Jesus was handed. These may be directly at fault for Jesus’ crucifixion, but those indirectly involved must not be so easily let off the hook. Simon Wiesenthal, in his book, “The Sunflower”, asked the haunting question he observed during

his time as a Jewish POW in Nazi-occupied Poland: “who is the guiltier; the one who directly commits the sin or the one who turns a deliberate blind eye to a known sin and remains silent?” The throng of people who were demanding Jesus be crucified had once hailed His entry into Jerusalem as though He were a conquering hero; now only a few days later they wanted Him dead. What makes “believers” turn so easily to the point of intentional destruction of another human being? Is such hatred possible in the heart of one who claims to have been “saved”? Whether or not they were “really” saved is too easily ascertained when these individuals turn so foul, but it still does not explain why we humans – even Christians – seem to take such perverse delight in “bringing someone down” by going along with these foul and hateful persons – or worse - remaining silent by refusing to confront these “killers”. These are the compelling questions of Good Friday. If we are “rejoicing” on such a dark day, even with biblical hindsight on the value of Jesus’ blood, there may be our first clue as to how we can turn so easily. The question is left, however: how far are we willing to go to satisfy our own insatiable thirst for blood? The Lord alone knows.

SAFE STARTS APRIL IS NATIONAL SAFE DIGGING MONTH When it comes to digging safely, you make the call. Whether you’re working on a large excavation or simply planting a tree in your yard, natural gas and utility line safety should always be job one – and that starts with calling 811 to have your utility lines marked. By doing so, you can be certain where your electric, gas, water and other important lines are located as well as avoid causing serious injuries, service interruptions or possibly costly fines for damaged infrastructure. Make the call. It’s easy, and free. Respect the lines. Dig with care. After all, safety is in your hands… but always on our mind.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Crocketts Bluff, Ethel & St. Charles News

By Margaret Aycock

GREETINGS: Morning Everyone! Again, I hope everybody had a good and safe weekend. I really hope or wish that the rain would go away a few days because everyone’s yards are so very wet that we can’t get in our flower beds yet. But I bet that before long we will all be praying for rain. What do y’all think, folks? I started packing my winter clothes up a couple of weeks ago. But guess what, I have had to unpack some things already. Ha! I have always said, “If you don’t like our weather, partner, just hang loose for a few days, because the weather down here changes so often that you have to like one day anyway. ” Am I right??? SOWRHEAVER SERVICES: Our sincere condolences and prayers go out to the family and friends of Daphne Lynn Edwards Sowrheaver, age 57 of Gillett, whom the angels came to take to Heaven on March 22, 2015. Her visitation was 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, March 25th at Essex Funeral Home in DeWitt. Her funeral service was at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26. 2015 at Grace Church in Gillett. Burial was in Gillett Cemetery with Essex Funeral Home in DeWitt in charge. I did not know this lady, but my heartfelt sympathy goes out to her family and friends for all of us. GARDNER SERVICES: Our most condolences and prayers goes out to the family and friends of Betty Jo Coit Gardner, age 77, of DeWitt went to be with her Lord & Savior Friday, March 27, 2015. Betty Jo’s visitation was Sunday evening, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. March 29th at Essex Funeral Home. Her funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 30 at Essex Funeral Home. Betty Jo was a very good friend of mine. Everyone in Betty’s family is so special to Jay and I because we all grew up together. I even go back as far as her Grandma Coit. I miss her

already although Jay and I were unable to see her and visit with family members due to health reasons. But, I know that she is not suffering now. If we can do anything to ease the pain you are going through, please let us know. WE LOVE YOU ALL!!!! (No Billy, I can’t cook anymore.) CAMPERS DINE OUT: Jay and I dined out Friday night at the Bull Pen with our friends from Monticello who were camping at Merrisac State Park below Tichnor during spring break. We had planned to be camping with them also, but J.W. has had lots of health problems for the past two-three months. We are unable to do much of anything. But, with the help of the Lord and prayers, I know we both will be better before long and maybe we can “kick up our heels before long.” CBCC MEETING: The Crockett’s Bluff Community Center held their monthly meeting, Thursday March 26 at 6:30 p.m. This was actually the first meeting for 2015 due to the past weather conditions in January and February. We did not get to attend this meeting because Jay did not feel good. I do not know how many members attended, but I understand that there were enough members to enjoy a very good potluck meal and for several games of bingo. I’m sorry that we could not attend, but if the weather is good enough and Jay is well enough, we will be there for the April meeting. We all meet the fourth Thursday of every month from 6:30 untill . . . for a short meeting, potluck dinner, and if enough folks are able to come, we play bingo and always have good fellowship and fun. Anyone and everyone that is interested in joining in with us, just come out to Crockett’s Bluff Community Center, “right down town,” bring your favorite potluck dish or dishes, your little “white elephant gift or gifts”

for bingo and join in the fun. Our yearly dues are very low, $10.00 for singles or $20.00 for families. NOW WHERE ELSE CAN YOU HAVE THAT MUCH FUN AND HAVE GOOD HOME COOKING + THE WONDERFUL FELLOWSHIP FOR SUCH A SMALL AMOUNT? ATTENTION: SENIOR CITIZENS, FRIENDS, RETIREES OR ANYONE FOR FUN! I would like to visit with a lot of folks that are retired, stay-at homes, and maybe even disabled, but still like to get out sometimes (at least once a month) and maybe have good clean FUN AND FELLOWSHIP WITH OTHER PEOPLE OUR AGE OR CONDITION. Everyone that knows me, knows that I like to play games, eat, reminiscence about the past, and maybe (gossip a bit.) Ha! Ha! A dear friend and high school graduate of mine told me that she had said to her husband, “You know, we need to get out more and visit with people and friends, because we don’t get any younger and time goes by so fast.” Do you remember, DKG? If you folks think this is a good idea and are interested in starting a fun and fellowship club, please call J.W. or myself at 870-282-8030, home, or 870-723-5070, J.W. call, or my cell, 870-723-5071. I’ll cut this short now, as I’m running out of time. (No, no. I hope not today, please Lord.) I want to get it in the paper on time is what I meant!!!! We hope everyone had a safe and Happy Easter Day! Jay and I just stayed at home like two old folks should and watched the movie, “The Bible.” It was a six hour movie and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
