The 2013 g n i r p S ion t c e ll o C Color is here!

In 2010, a young life was taken too soon by a tragic accident. Her family and friends have taken steps towards healing and have set up a scholarship fund in her name. This year will be the 2nd Annual Lil’ Cheetah 5K Run. Last year, over $20,600 was raised which enabled the fund to award 12 two-year scholarships in memory of Jordan Murphy. The first year, the student received the minimum amount and then if their GPA is high enough, they receive a higher amount the second year. There will be a 5K run/ walk and a 1-mile walk. All children registered for the 1-mile who are 5 and under will receive a participation award. The 1-mile will take place at Crescent Park. The 5K will start in the DeWitt High School parking lot and it will finish at the 50-yard line on the track. The race will start 8 a.m. Registration for the race can be completed before the race or the day of the race. The registration fees are $20 for pre-registration, $25 for day-of registration, and $15 for 10-years and under. En-

JORDAN MURPHY try fee includes a t-shirt. Registration is also available online at jordan5k.org. The

5K route is also visible online. The race will be chip-

timed. This mean that the participants will wear a chip on their shoe and when they cross the finish line, there will be a precise time for their race. For the 5K run, awards will be given to the top 5 participants in each age category. “We hope to raise as much as we did last year.” Marta Berry, member of the committee and previous co-worker of Jordan, said. “We’re not in it for the money. We’re in it to give back.” The race is set for Saturday, March 16. This is the weekend before spring break but the committee hopes that everyone will come out to the run and then move onto their spring break activities afterwards. The committee team includes Marta Berry, Keri Morton, Tiffani Hern, Melissa Ruffin, and Penny Murphy (Jordan’s mother). They hope everyone will come out and join in for a good cause in memory of a wonderful young woman. Businesses can also be sponsors. For more information call Marta Berry at 870-830-1790 or email her at 1berrypatch@ gmail.com.

ABCD SCHOLARSHIP FUND FISH FRY AND AUCTION

The scholarship fund has helped approximately one hundred students since its inception. It was established to honor the memory of four Humphrey youths who were tragically killed in an accident. BY VALENYA FRANKS EDITOR dewitt00@centurytel.net

On March 1, 2000, tragedy struck the small town of Humphrey when four kids where killed in a heartbreaking accident. It will have been 13 years on March 1 of this year, and while the tragedy still rings fresh in the minds of their family and friends, they have moved forward to honor their memories. The ABCD Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Ashley Caviness, Brady Frizzell, Cliff Morgan, and Danielle White who were killed in the train accident on that unforgettable day. Over the years, over $100,000 has been raised in total for the scholarship fund. Approximately, one

hundred students have received a scholarship from the fund. The scholarships will be equally divided between DeWitt High School and Stuttgart High School Seniors. The number of awards and amounts will be based on success of fish fry and auction. The 13th Annual ABCD Memorial Scholarship Fund Fish Fry and auction will be Friday, March 1 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Grand Prairie Center in Stuttgart. It will be $12 a plate and carry-outs are available. Yoder Ruritan is catering. The auction will begin at 7:00 p.m. Come out and support this annual event as assistance is given to high school seniors in memory TOP: Ashley Caviness and Danielle White.
