AROUND THE COUNTY WELCOME TO DEWITT

The “Welcome to DeWitt” signs entering DeWitt coming in from Stuttgart and St. Charles have been completely retouched. Tom Barry, whose father originally built the signs, painted the signs. The sign coming in from Gillett has also been retouched and will be up soon.

NEW DEADLINES FOR DEWITT ERA ENTERPRISE

Effective January 1, 2013, the deadline for advertising or editorial submissions to the DeWitt Era Enterprise will be Mondays at noon. Please call our offices with any news or advertising 870-946-3241. We look forward to working hard for you in 2013!

De Witt Era Enterprise has come under new owners. Two investors from Chicago took an interest in this small town paper, and the sale was completed on December 27, 2012. Three Arkansas County locals, Dawn Deane, Haley Watkins, and Valenya Franks are responsible for running the paper. We wanted to take this time to introduce ourselves. Dawn, ad sales manager, is the head honcho. She is over ad sales and the general business of the paper. If you have questions, she’s the one you’re looking for. Dawn was born in Baltimore, MD but her parents were originally from St. Charles, AR. They then moved to Pine Bluff, AR where she grew up. She was raised in radio broadcasting. She attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro for radio and TV.

She worked in radio for over 25 years. In 2003, the six radio stations were sold and she moved to St. Charles, AR. In 2012, she came to the DeWitt Era Enterprise for advertising sales. Haley, the officer manager and ad designer, is over composition and design of ads as well as running the office. Haley, a DeWitt native, was born and raised in DeWitt, AR. She attends PCCUA for medical office technology. She is set to get her degree in May 2013. She began working at the DeWitt Era Enterprise in 2012 for ad composition. Valenya, the editor and reporter, is over what goes on around town. She’s responsible for writing the stories. Valenya was born in Little Rock, AR and raised in Humphrey, AR. In 2005, the Humphrey High School closed and she transferred to DeWitt High School. She graduated from the

University of Arkansas at Monticello with a degree in marketing. She joined the DeWitt Era Enterprise staff as the editor and reporter at the end of 2012 with the purchase of the paper. We hope to bring the people of DeWitt a paper they can be proud of. We know we have some big shoes to fill but if everyone can help us out along the way, we’re sure we can make this a success. The sale is the latest chapter in the DeWitt Era-

Enterprise’s long history in DeWitt. After several newspapers died shortly after they were started, the New Era was founded in 1882. In 1916, Perlie Roberts founded the DeWitt Enterprise. J.M. Henderson combined the two newspapers into the DeWitt Era-Enterprise in 1929. Morgan Braswell bought the newspaper shortly after World War II and ran it until he sold it to two of his
