Acknowledgement of Country
TEDxKings Park acknowledges the Wadjuk people of the Noongar Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which Kings Park, the city of Perth and the metropolitan region are located. We recognise their continuing connection to the land, waters and community of this area and pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging. It is an honour for us to be meeting here today.
Judgement
A powerful word with a history as long and as complicated as humanity itself. We praise good judgement. We regret poor judgement. And we vilify bad judgement. And we judge: we judge our friends, our family, even people in the street – especially people in the street.
Let’s not be coy; we see someone behaving outside of our norms and it’s hard not to other them, to judge them as having failed our arbitrary, self-defined criteria of success and acceptability.
It’s no accident that we find ourselves in Court No. 1 of the Supreme Court. For 120 years judgements have been made in this very spot. Some good, some bad, some... in between.
