T. Edward Vives musical odyssey began at the tender age of 4 with piano lessons under Edgar and Dorothy Glyde in Auburn, Alabama. This early exposure to music laid the foundation for his future pursuits. As he progressed through public school, his passion expanded to include trombone performance and music composition, marking the beginning of a lifelong dedication to the arts. Studied Years and Early Career


His academic journey took him to Florida State University, where he earned bachelor's degrees in Composition and Music Education. There, he honed his skills under the tutelage of renowned composers John Boda and Charles Carter and advanced his trombone performance with William Cramer and John Drew. Additionally, he studied conducting under James Croft. This intense learning and growth period culminated in a Master of Music in Composition and Music Theory and a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Florida. Award-Winning Achievements His role as the Musical and Artistic Director of the Los Alamos Community Winds stands out in his career. Under his leadership, the ensemble achieved recognition as a finalist for the American Prize, Community Wind Ensemble Division, notably achieving first runner-up in 2012. His compositions have also received global acclaim, winning awards like the North Cheshire 2003 Composition Competition. His role as the Commissioned Composer for the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico in 2003 and 2010, along with accolades such as the 2011 American Prize in Composition (Choral Division) and 3rd place in the 2015 American Prize in Conducting, further attest to his creative excellence.


Current Work He has held various prestigious positions, contributing significantly to the field of music. He has served as the State Composition Chair for the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico and as the Artistic and Musical Director for the White Mountain Symphony Orchestra in Show Low, AZ, from 2015 to 2023. His professional affiliations include memberships in esteemed organizations such as Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, and the Music Teachers National Association. Hobbies


He finds joy and creative fulfillment in hobbies like Star Trek Scale Modeling and Sewing/Costume creation. These activities reflect his passion for imagination and innovation, paralleling his professional music endeavors.
