São Rafael 02

It's a semi-displacement hull with spray rails. We will add a new Hydrofoil system (3 in total), a new Propulsion Column and a completely redesigned Dual Motor with a peak power of 10 kW. It's expected to weigh only 50Kg and we are targeting the 50Km/h mark this time.

By now it's confirmed that we will be participating in the new edition of the Solar & Energy Boat Challenge taking place in Monaco in the early days of July, 2019 (2 to 6). Expect us.

Making the Mold

W e are currently finishing the process of machining our mold. To

decrease construction time, instead of doing a male mold and female mold from that (the SR 01 process), we will only do a male mold. This way our hull willbe made from the inside out, using a minimal amount of materials.

Thanks to Sonae Industria, one of our sponsors, we were able to get the MDF required for the entire mold!

By the time the machining process ends, we will then start assembling the mold.

We will use an infusion process consisting of vaccum infusion resin to make our hull superior, both in weight and increased strength. This will allow a minimal human error while making it much cheaper to produce, when comparing to the prepreg method used in the SR 01.

DUAL MOTOR

BATTERY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

A new battery design is being developed with the goal of making it lighter and much simpler. We are also developing our own BMS (Battery Management System), in which we lready have our first prototype, this way it will fit our needs and we will be able to place it properlly in our battery without the need of extra cables for voltage measurements. This design is highly inspired rom the FST Lisboa core battery model, that just sits on top of the battery.

MOTOR CONTROL

Last year, due to electric failures during testing, we had to compete with two electric skateboard motor controllers, that combined, had a peak power of 3.2kW, making us reach a top speed of 21Km/h. Fear no more, a new motor controller was acquired! With two integrated output channels, this setup allows us to control our dual motor system with only one controller. With a peak power of 10kW, we will be able to achieve unthinkable speeds.

SOLAR PANEL DEVELOPMENT

The development of flexible solar panels is being studied. This project will significantly reduce the cost of the solar panels needed as a whole and will deepen our knowledge on this matter, which is one of the most important aspects for the future.

RELIABILITY

All of our electric systems will be developed considering maximum riliability and robustness. With experience from previous years, we will make things simple to use and to debug. All of our data communication will rely on the CAN protocol, a known robust protocol used throughout the various sectors of the automotive industry, that allows devices to communicate with each other through the same transmission line

TRANSMISSION SYSTEM

A dual motor system, with a maximum power of input of 10kW will give us better overall efficiency and a maximum output torque of 55 Nm.

This is a stand-alone system (can work without being attached to the

boat) composed of custom ears, machined by RMC and a casing made out of machined billet aluminum.

PROPULSION COLUMN

A new propulsion column was designed, it’s currently being machined

by TJ Moldes, SA and it will be integrated with the hull. This new column will have less drag when compared to the previous one of SR 01. It will be lighter and easier to steer.

STEERING SYSTEM

In the past we had severall problems egarding the steering system. This time we will integrate a quick release system, that requires less force to turn the column.

This system will be more reliable and backlash free.

HYDROFOIL CONTROL

Our hydrofoils at the front will operate under electric control or via mechanichal control. Both systems are beign developed for increased redundancy.

The back hydrofoil will function under a closed loop hydaulic cylinder system.

UPCOMING MONTH

fter we finish machining our mold. we will then start the Aassembly process and the preparation for the lamination.

We are now gathering resources to do a first prototype of our flexible solar panels and we hope to have a reliable BMS very soon. Our sponsors have been shipping our machined pieces each week and it's only a matter of time until we start testing and perfecting our mechanichal systems.

From 20 th to the 24 th of February we will attend Nauticampo with our own stand. Nauticampo is an International Exhibition of Boating, Sports, Adventure, Caravanning and Swimming- Pools that takes place in FIL (Feira Internacional de Lisboa). Come and say hi to us!

THANK YOU NOTE

e would like to thank all the support and the worming Wmessages from the community we've been having in the past few months. We've been working very closely with our sponsors to make SR 02 possible and our final message could not go other way. Communication is key and these companies help us in every step and process that takes to make things happen, we couldn't be happier with these partnerships we have. We know that without them, this project would not exist. Thank you.
