Background

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) established in 2012, aims to harmonize the operations of key road transport departments in Kenya. In order to process all vehicle registrations, licensing, and digital processes efficiently, they required a highly available and easily manageable data center Vertiv supplied the Vertiv SmartRow solution for a disaster recovery site, which received such positive feedback from the customer that they decided to build their new main data center on the same platform

Key Challenges

As part of their digital transformation strategy, NTSA underwent a renovation that involved resizing the existing rooms in the main building/block, moving away from traditional bricks-and-mortar IT infrastructure They needed a streamlined infrastructure capable of supporting the existing and increasing demand for compute power, enabling them to provide high-quality customer service for driving licenses, vehicle registrations, and real-time road safety monitoring

The Solution

Vertiv provided a comprehensive solution, including 10 racks with a power capacity of 7 kW per rack, 20 monitored PDUs, 2x 80 kVA monolithic Liebert® EXS UPS, a redundant Liebert CRV in-row cooling system with a capacity of 3x 35 kW, Vertiv™ Environet Alert, and presales design and customer consultancy Additionally, Vertiv implemented a complete safety and security system integrated with Vertiv SmartRow and RDU environmental monitoring, which included fire and access control.

Case study

The manufacturing time for the solution was 8 weeks, and the deployment time, which included turnkey civil work such as DC and UPS room renovation, false ceiling installation, fire-rated wall paints, and fire-rated doors, was also 8 weeks

One interesting fact is that a 6 rack disaster recovery system was built on the Vertiv SmartRow platform Furthermore, the customer's decision to standardize their primary data center on the SmartRow platform resulted in high system availability, improved speed, efficiency, and reliability.
