TEXAS TECH LOOKS TO REBOUND SATURDAY AGAINST WEST VIRGINIA
Texas Tech will look for its first Big 12 Conference victory of the season Saturday when the Red Raiders host West Virginia in a 1 p.m. first serve at the United Spirit Arena. The match can be seen in its entirety on TexasTech.TV, the official multimedia home of Texas Tech Athletics.
AROUND THE NET • The Red Raiders close their week-long homestand against the Mountaineers Saturday, marking the first of two times
this year where Texas Tech will play consecutive Big 12 Conference at the United Spirit Arena. Tech will also host Texas and Oklahoma on Nov. 16-20. • Texas Tech will be looking to continue its success from a year ago against the Mountaineers as the Red Raiders swept the season series with a pair of 3-1 victories. It marked the first time Tech had defeated a Big 12 opponent twice in a season since doing so against both Kansas and Texas A&M in 2006. • The Red Raiders were successful offensively last year against West Virginia as Texas Tech combined to hit .254 for both matches with 109 kills at a 13.62 per set rate. Tech hit .273 in the season finale against the Mountaineers, its highest attacking percentage against a Big 12 opponent last year. • Likewise, Texas Tech also found success on the defensive side against the Mountaineers last season as well thanks to 36 total blocks that kept West Virginia at a .102 hitting percentage over both matches. West Virginia recorded just a .062 percentage in the series finale, the lowest average for a Tech opponent last year. • West Virginia failed to record a victory a year ago in its first season as a Big 12 member but has found success already this year with a 14-2 overall record and 1-1 mark in league action. The Mountaineers opened conference play with a 3-1 victory over Kansas State in Morgantown on Sept. 25 before falling to TCU in four sets this past Wednesday. • If Texas Tech were to defeat West Virginia on Saturday, it would mark the quickest the program had recorded a conference victory since 2007 when the Red Raiders opened Big 12 play with a 3-2 victory over Colorado. • The Red Raiders are coming off a 3-0 sweep at the hands of No. 25 Iowa State this past Wednesday at the United Spirit Arena. The Cyclones limited Texas Tech to just 23 kills on the night en route to holding the Red Raiders to a season-low .039 hitting percentage. • Texas Tech enters Saturday with a 2-3 record this year in matches played at the United Spirit Arena. The Red Raiders are now 12-16 on their home court under the direction of third-year head coach Don Flora.
