TEXAS TECH AND IOWA STATE Saturday’s game against Iowa State will mark the 12th meeting between the Red Raiders and the Cyclones. Texas Tech holds an 8-3 advantage in the series including last year’s 24-13 win in Ames. Texas Tech and Iowa State first met back in 1967 (52-0 Tech win in Lubbock) and have become regular foes since the formation of the Big 12 Conference in 1996. • Iowa State’s only win in Lubbock came in its last trip to the South Plains as the Cyclones handed the Red Raiders a 41-7 loss on Oct. 29, 2011. The Red Raiders entered the game fresh off a win over No. 1 Oklahoma in Norman the previous week and were 15 point favorites against the Cyclones heading into the game. That quickly changed as the Cyclones jumped out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back. • Tech avenged the 2011 loss at Jones AT&T Stadium with an impressive defensive performance in last year’s game that gave the Red Raiders a 24-13 win. In that game, the defense compiled season highs in both sacks (4) and interceptions (3). HOMECOMING IN RAIDERLAND Texas Tech Alumni from all over the world will reconnect in Lubbock this weekend as Texas Tech University and the Texas Tech Alumni Association host Homecoming 2013: Tech Loves The 90s. Homecoming festivities begin on Monday and last throughout the week leading up the Pep Rally/Bonfire on Friday and of course Texas Tech’s game against Iowa State. Texas Tech holds a 51-29-3 all-time record on Homecoming after last year’s 49-14 win over No. 4 West Virginia. TEXAS TECH IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS • Texas Tech debuted in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll at No. 25 on Sept. 15 following a win over TCU. The AP ranking in the fourth week of the season is the earliest debut for the Red Raiders since a No. 12 preseason ranking in 2008. The Red Raiders are ranked 20th in this week’s poll. • Texas Tech debuted in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll at No. 25 on Sept. 22 following a win over Texas State. The Red Raiders are ranked 21st in this week’s poll. • First-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury got his team ranked after just three games and that marks a first in school history. Prior to Kingsbury, the previous mark was five games by Jim Carlen in 1970. Carlen’s squad defeated Texas A&M 21-7 in College Station on Oct. 10, 1970, and then appeared in the AP Poll at No. 17 on Oct. 12. The A&M win was Carlen’s fifth game as the head coach of the Red Raiders.
