TEXAS TECH AND KANSAS Saturday’s game in Lawrence will mark the 15th all-time meeting between Texas Tech and the University of Kansas. The Red Raiders hold a 13-1 all-time advantage and have won six consecutive games in the series, including last year’s two-overtime 41-34 win in Lubbock. The series dates back to 1965, however, 10 of the games have been played since the two teams joined the Big 12 Conference in 1996. • Saturday’s game will mark the third consecutive match-up between Texas Tech and Kansas that will kickoff at 11 a.m. Last year’s game in Lubbock was played on Fox Sports Net at 11 a.m. as was the 2011 game in Lawrence. • Texas Tech will need to come out of the gates a little quicker than the last time they played in Lawrence as the Red Raiders found themselves behind 20-0 in the second quarter. The Red Raiders scored 38 second-half points to defeat the Jayhawks 45-34. • Last year’s game was won in the second overtime as senior running back Eric Stephens tossed a three-yard pass out of the wildcat formation to senior receiver Darrin Moore. The touchdown gave Tech a 41-34 win. TEXAS TECH IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS • Texas Tech debuted in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll at No. 25 on Sept. 15 following a win over TCU. The AP ranking in the fourth week of the season is the earliest debut for the Red Raiders since a No. 12 preseason ranking in 2008. The Red Raiders are ranked 20th in this week’s poll. • Texas Tech debuted in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll at No. 25 on Sept. 22 following a win over Texas State. The Red Raiders are ranked 22nd in this week’s poll. • First-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury got his team ranked after just three games and that marks a first in school history. Prior to Kingsbury, the previous mark was five games by Jim Carlen in 1970. Carlen’s squad defeated Texas A&M 21-7 in College Station on Oct. 10, 1970, and then appeared in the AP Poll at No. 17 on Oct. 12. The A&M win was Carlen’s fifth game as the head coach of the Red Raiders.
