TEXAS TECH AND TEXAS STATE Texas Tech and Texas State will be meeting for the third time on Saturday when the two teams kickoff at Jones AT&T Stadium. Texas Tech and Texas State will be playing for the third consecutive season and the final game of a three-game contract. Texas Tech leads the series 2-0. • Texas State will mark the fourth consecutive team from the state of Texas that the Red Raiders have faced this year. The last time Tech started its season off against four in-state opponents was in 1962 when Tech started the season with seven games against teams from Texas. CELEBRATE COTTON GAME - WE CLOTHE AMERICA Saturday’s game against Texas State will mark the second annual “Celebrate Cotton Game” at Texas Tech. Texas Tech is partnering with the Texas High Plains Cotton industry in order to put a national focus on West Texas - the world leader in cotton production. Fans are encouraged to wear WHITE to the game to support the Red Raiders and to celebrate cotton. Numerous displays around the stadium will educate fans on the cotton industry and several leaders from the cotton industry will be attending the game as special guests of the university. TEXAS TECH IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS • Texas Tech debuted in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 poll at No. 25. • Texas Tech is in the national polls for the first time since being ranked No. 23 on Nov. 11, 2012. • The AP ranking in the fourth week of the season is the earliest debut for the Red Raiders since a No. 12 preseason ranking in 2008. • First-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury has his team ranked after just three games and that marks a first in school history. Prior to Kingsbury, the previous mark was five games by Jim Carlen in 1970. Carlen’s squad defeated Texas A&M 21-7 in College Station on Oct. 10, 1970, and then appeared in the AP Poll at No. 17 on Oct. 12. The A&M win was Carlen’s fifth game as the head coach of the Red Raiders.
