THE MATCH-UP Saturday’s game in Manhattan will mark the 13th all-time meeting between Texas Tech and Kansas State. The two teams first met back in 1933 when the Red Raiders took a 6-0 victory in Lubbock. Texas Tech and Kansas State played the first-ever game in Big 12 Conference history as the two teams met in Manhattan on Aug. 31, 1996, where the Wildcats took a 21-14 win. Kansas State won the first three Big 12 meetings in the series before Tech earned a 38-19 win in Lubbock on Oct. 13, 2001. The win in 2001 sparked a five-game win streak for Texas Tech and the Red Raiders will go to Manhattan having won the last two meetings against Kansas State at Bill Snyder Family Stadium (2008 and 2004). Kansas State snapped Tech’s five game win streak in the series last year in Lubbock as the Wildcats escaped with a 41-34 win at Jones AT&T Stadium. Texas Tech turned the ball over three times in the fourth quarter of last year’s game while also failing on a fourth down conversion.
