BATTLE FOR THE SADDLE TROPHY Texas Tech and TCU renewed their battle for the Saddle Trophy last season with the Horned Frogs prevailing 27-3 inside Jones AT&T Stadium. The two schools previously played for the Saddle Trophy from 196170 before it suddenly disappeared. A replica trophy was created for the 2017 meeting following discussions between both schools. n Texas Tech and TCU will face each other in primetime this year as ESPN will carry the game in front of a national audience. The Red Raiders also faced the Horned Frogs on a Thursday night ESPN broadcast in 2013, which resulted in a 20-10 victory in Lubbock. n

RED RAIDERS BACK ON THE ROAD Texas Tech heads to TCU this week looking for its third-straight Big 12 road win (no neutral sites) after edging Texas to close the regular season a year ago and then defeating then-No. 15 Oklahoma State to open league play this season. Tech has not previously won three-consecutive conference true road games since 2008 when the Red Raiders topped Kansas State, Texas A&M and No. 19 Kansas. n Since the Horned Frogs joined the Big 12 prior to the 2012 season, Texas Tech is 2-1 against TCU at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth. The Red Raiders needed overtime in both victories as Tech prevailed 56-53 in 2012 and then 27-24 in 2016. n
