TECH SEARCHES FOR BOWL ELIGIBILITY Bowl eligibility is not the only thing on the line Saturday for the Red Raiders as Texas Tech will be looking for its first win in the Little Apple since a 58-28 victory in 2008. The Red Raiders are currently 5-5 on the season and 3-4 in Big 12 play entering the final two games of the season versus Kansas State and Baylor. n All four of Texas Tech’s losses in Big 12 play have come to teams currently ranked in both the Associated Press and College Football Playoff polls. The Red Raiders have lost three of those games by one possession or less, falling to No. 12 West Virginia, 42-34 and then No. 7 Oklahoma, 51-46, and No. 19 Texas, 41-34, the last two weeks. n

DUFFEY LATEST QB WITH 400-YARD GAME Jett Duffey became the latest Texas Tech quarterback to record 500 yards of total offense against Texas as the sophomore threw for 444 yards and four touchdowns, while adding 80 more yards on the ground. He finished five yards shy of entering the top 10 in single-game history for yards of total offense. n According to research from STATS, Inc., Texas Tech could potentially become the third team since 2012 to rank among the top-15 teams nationally in passing yards per game, all while starting three different quarterbacks during the season. The only two others schools to do so are Oklahoma State in 2012 (7th) and TCU in 2015 (8th). n

Texas Tech is coming off a season-high five sacks against Texas as five different Red Raiders combined to pressure Longhorn quarterback Sam Ehllinger. Tech had four sacks in the first half alone as the Red Raiders recorded their highest total against a Big 12 opponent since finding the quarterback five times in a 2013 victory at Kansas. n Texas Tech has recorded 22.5 sacks already this season, over half which have come during the past four weeks (12). Jordyn Brooks led the Red Raiders with 1.5 sacks, while Nick McCann, Broderick Washington, Jr., Kolin Hill and Lonzell Gilmore each added a sack as well. n

HONORING SEÑOR SACK Texas Tech will honor the memory of Red Raider great Gabe Rivera throughout the 2018 season. Rivera, one of five members of the prestigious Texas Tech Ring of Honor, passed away in his hometown of San Antonio on July 16.

Known by fans as “Señor Sack” throughout his career, Rivera compiled 321 career tackles, including 34 that went for a loss, over his four-year career from 1979-82. He was inducted into the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Texas Tech Ring of Honor in 2014.
