RED RAIDERS HEAD TO STATE CAPITAL TO FACE NO. 10 TEXAS Texas Tech heads to the state capital Wednesday night looking to snap a three-match losing streak when the Red Raiders face in-state rival and 10th-ranked Texas at 7 p.m. in Gregory Gymnasium. The match will be broadcast live on the Longhorn Network. THE SERIES Tech will be looking to snap a 20-match losing streak to Texas as the Red Raiders have not defeated the Longhorns since sweeping the series in 2000. Texas has historically dominated the series with a 70-9-2 alltime record against the Red Raiders. Tech has only three wins against Texas since 1980 and only one in Austin during that span. The Red Raiders are only 2-32 all-time in road matches at Texas. LOOKING AHEAD The Red Raiders hit the road once again this weekend as Tech travels to Missouri for a 5 p.m. match at the Hearnes Center in Columbia. Tech returns to the United Spirit Arena on Oct. 19 for a 6:30 p.m. match against the Texas A&M Aggies. RED RAIDERS THREE WINS SHY OF FIRST WINNING SEASON SINCE 2001 Tech’s magic number to ensure a winning season is at three entering Wednesday night’s match at Texas. Tech still has 12 conference matches left and one non-conference matchup remaining at San Jose State. The Red Raiders’ last winning season came in 2001 when Tech finished 18-14 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. TEXAS TECH AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS The Red Raiders enter Wednesday night’s match having not defeated a ranked opponent since topping then-No. 20 Kansas State, 3-2, in Manhattan on Nov. 20, 2004. Tech has played only one ranked opponent so far this season, a close five-set loss to 25th-ranked Oklahoma on Oct. 1 in Lubbock. FLORA MAKING QUICK CHANGES TO TEXAS TECH Prior to his arrival, Texas Tech had only 11 wins over its last three seasons. Don Flora surpassed that total in mid-September. Now, the first-year head coach is aiming to put Tech in the midst of the Big 12 race as the Red Raiders have only won three conference matches during the past three years. After opening the conference schedule with back-to-back matches against ranked opponents, the Red Raiders are in the midst of playing four of their next six matches on the road with home matches against Kansas State and Texas A&M during that span.
