RED RAIDERS HOST IN-STATE RIVAL TEXAS WEDNESDAY NIGHT Texas Tech hosts the first of two home matches this week on Wednesday evening when 8th-ranked Texas arrives in Lubbock for a 6:30 p.m. contest at the United Spirit Arena. THE SERIES The Red Raiders will be looking to snap a 21-match losing streak to the Longhorns as Tech has not defeated Texas since sweeping the series in 2000. Texas has historically controlled the series with a 71-9-2 all-time record against the Red Raiders as Tech has only three wins against Texas since 1980. Tech is only 2-31 when playing the Longhorns in Lubbock. LOOKING AHEAD Tech finishes its week-long homestand on Saturday when the Kansas Jayhawks come to town for a 5 p.m. match at the United Spirit Arena. The Red Raiders will then close their non-conference schedule next Tuesday at San Jose State before returning to Big 12 play at Kansas State on Nov. 19. TEXAS SWEEPS TEXAS TECH IN PREVIOUS MEETING Texas limited Texas Tech to a season-low 24 kills in its 3-0 sweep of the Red Raiders on Oct. 12 at Gregory Gymnasium. The Longhorns hit .323 in the match, the highest percentage for a Tech opponent this season, while keeping the Red Raiders to only a .116 average. Amanda Dowdy led Tech with 12 kills to go along with a team-high .281 hitting percentage. ON THE AIR The match will be carried live locally on Fox News Now, Suddenlink channel No. 9 in the Lubbock area, as Matt Driskill and Harley Chambliss bring the action courtside at the United Spirit Arena. TEXAS TECH AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS The Red Raiders enter Wednesday night’s match having not defeated a ranked opponent since topping then-No. 20 Kansas State, 3-2, in Manhattan on Nov. 20, 2004. Tech is 0-4 against ranked opponents this season after falling in straight sets last weekend at Iowa State. TECH STILL TWO WINS SHY OF FIRST WINNING SEASON SINCE 2001 With its win over Baylor, Tech is just two wins shy of ensuring its first winning season since 2001 as the Red Raiders have four Big 12 matches remaining along with a non-conference contest at San Jose State next Tuesday. Tech’s 2001 squad finished the year 18-14 en route to earning an NCAA Tournament selection.
