RED RAIDERS CLOSE SEASON AGAINST TCU

Texas Tech will look to close the 2013 season with a win Saturday when the Red Raiders host TCU on Senior Day at the United Spirit Arena. First serve is slated for 3 p.m. following a pregame presentation to Tech’s lone senior, Aubree Piper. The Red Raiders head into the season finale at 9-22 overall and 2-13 in Big 12 play while TCU is currently 16-14 on the year and 4-11 in league action after a 3-0 sweep Wednesday over Kansas State.

AROUND THE NET • Texas Tech will recognize its lone senior Aubree Piper prior to the match Saturday afternoon. This is Tech’s smallest senior

class since 2003 when Angela Mooney represented the only senior on the Red Raider roster. • Piper has a chance to end her career in the Texas Tech record book for two different categories, including hitting percentage where her .248 career average currently ranks eighth all-time in program history. Piper has also totaled 216 career block assists, which is just one shy of entering the top-10 in school history. • The Red Raiders will be looking to win on Senior Day for the second-consecutive season as Texas Tech knocked off No. 20 Kansas State, 3-1, on Nov. 17 last year. Tech has not won consecutive Senior Day matches since the 2001-02 seasons when the Red Raiders topped Baylor (2001) and Iowa State (2002). • Texas Tech will also be aiming to end its season on a positive note as the Red Raiders have not closed the regular season with a victory since defeating Iowa State, 3-0, on Nov. 25, 2000, in Lubbock. Tech is just 4-12 all-time during the Big 12 era in regular-season finales. • The Red Raiders found success against TCU earlier this year with a 3-2 victory on Oct. 13 in Fort Worth. The five-set victory marked Tech’s first on the road in conference play since edging Colorado on Nov. 20, 2010, in Boulder. • Texas Tech’s earlier win over TCU this year snapped a four-match losing streak to the Horned Frogs. Despite being just 300 miles apart, the two schools are meeting for just the ninth time this weekend as the overall series is tied 4-4 all-time. • Texas Tech heads into Saturday looking to sweep a conference opponent for the second-straight year as the Red Raiders topped West Virginia twice in 2012. Tech has swept a conference opponent in back-to-back seasons since defeating Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas and Oklahoma twice in 2001 and then the Cyclones and Sooners again in 2002. • With a victory on Saturday, Texas Tech will have reached double-digit wins for the third-consecutive season which has not previously been accomplished since the 2004-06 seasons. Tech had previously reached double-digit wins in each season up until the 2007 campaign.
