RED RAIDERS CLOSE NON-CONFERENCE AT SAN JOSE STATE Texas Tech will look to break its recent struggles Tuesday evening when the Red Raiders take a step out of conference play to travel to San Jose State for a 9 p.m. (CT) match at Spartan Gym. THE SERIES Tech and San Jose State will be meeting for only the second time in school history Tuesday night as the Spartans took the previous encounter, 3-1, at the Utah Tournament on Sept. 2, 1988. LOOKING AHEAD The Red Raiders resume their Big 12 slate this weekend when they travel to Manhattan, Kan. to take on the Kansas State Wildcats at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The match will begin the final stretch of Tech’s 2011 regular season as the Red Raiders have only Oklahoma and Missouri remaining on the schedule. RED RAIDERS LOOK TO CONTINUE NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS Tech travels to San Jose State riding a 14-match winning streak against non-conference opponents, the school’s longest run since winning 22-straight over the course of the 1996-97 seasons. The Red Raiders’ only loss out of conference came in the regular season opener at TCU where the Horned Frogs took a 3-1 victory. TECH BOOKS RARE NON-CONFERENCE MATCH IN MONTH OF NOVEMBER Tuesday night’s match will mark the latest date in a season that Tech has played a non-conference opponent since facing Southwestern Texas State (now just Texas State) on Nov. 15, 1992. The Red Raiders beat the Bobcats, 3-1, that night in their regular season finale. Tech has not previously played a non-conference opponent during the month of November since facing both UTEP and New Mexico State in 2001. TECH STILL TWO WINS SHY OF FIRST WINNING SEASON SINCE 2001 Despite four-straight losses, Tech is still just two wins shy of ensuring its first winning season since 2001 as the Red Raiders have three Big 12 matches remaining along with a non-conference contest at San Jose State Tuesday night. Tech’s 2001 squad finished the year 18-14 en route to earning an NCAA Tournament selection. FLORA SIGNS FOUR DURING FALL PERIOD Don Flora added to the future of the Tech program last week when he signed Emily Ehrle, Brianna Grant, Emily Ruetter, and Meghan Stacy to national letters of intent. The four signees will join with a talented group of preferred walk-ons next fall, giving Flora additional depth along the front row as he signed a group that consists of two outside hitters (Ehrle, Stacy), a middle blocker (Grant), and a setter (Reutter).
