RED RAIDERS RESUME BIG 12 SLATE AGAINST 25TH-RANKED OKLAHOMA Texas Tech resumes its Big 12 schedule Saturday evening as the Red Raiders face 25th-ranked Oklahoma in the annual Dig for the Cure match at the United Spirit Arena. RED RAIDERS DIG FOR THE CURE For the second-straight year, Tech will host the Dig for the Cure promotion in order to raise breast cancer awareness. The Red Raiders will wear specially-designed warm-up shirts by Under Armour, which will be later auctioned off with all proceeds going to the Lubbock-based Susan G. Komen Foundation. Head coach Don Flora and the rest of the Tech coaching staff will also dress in pink to support the cause. All fans wearing pink to the match will be admitted for only $1. Tech will also provide all breast cancer survivors complimentary admission to the match while also recognizing the group at the intermission. TEXAS TECH OFF TO BEST START SINCE 2000 The Red Raiders enter Monday’s match boasting a 14-2 record, marking the program’s best start since the 2000 squad opened the year 16-1 en route to a 24-9 record and trip to the NCAA Tournament. Tech began that season with eight-straight wins before falling to Baylor on Sept. 13 and then followed with seven more wins to start its tournament run. Following its win over New Mexico Monday night, the Red Raiders enter the match having won 14 of its last 15 matches after dropping the season opener to TCU. THE SERIES Despite losses in 11-straight matches, the Red Raiders still control a 34-24 all-time advantage over Oklahoma in the series that dates back all the way to 1976. Tech, which is 13-7 overall against OU in Lubbock, has not defeated the Sooners since recording a 3-0 sweep on Sept. 21, 2005 at home. LOOKING AHEAD The Red Raiders return to the road next Wednesday night for their first midweek Big 12 match of the season as Tech travels to face Baylor at 6:30 p.m. in the Farrell Center. Tech continues conference play next weekend as well with Kansas State coming to Lubbock for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday. NEW MEXICO WIN BOOSTS TECH’S RKPI Tech’s win over New Mexico Monday night moved the Red Raiders up 13 spots in the Richard Kern Percentage Index (RKPI), which is similar to the RPI used by the NCAA. The Red Raiders came into the match ranked 108 out of 327 schools. The win was Tech’s second over a top 100 opponent this year as Morehead State came into the week ranked 83rd overall, 10 spots behind New Mexico.
