• Texas Tech returns to Rocky Johnson Field this weekend as the Red Raiders open Big 12 Conference play by hosting No. 6 Oklahoma in a three-game series that begins at 6 p.m. Friday evening. The series continues with a 4 p.m. first pitch Saturday afternoon and then a 12 p.m. start on Sunday. • Texas Tech is 7-12 all-time in Big 12 openers as the Red Raiders will be looking to start conference play with a win for the second time in the past three years. • This will be the third time in school history where the Red Raiders have opened Big 12 play against Oklahoma as the Sooners swept a pair of two-game series in both 2007 and 2009. Oklahoma was ranked in the top 10 nationally in both of those seasons as well. • The Red Raiders are opening their Big 12 slate at home for the sixth time in the past eight years. Texas Tech also opened conference play at home in 2014, dropping all three games in the series to No. 12 Baylor. • No. 6 Oklahoma is the highest-ranked team to face the Red Raiders since the then top-ranked Sooners traveled to Lubbock on April 12-14, 2013, for a three-game series. • Texas Tech will be looking for its first win over a ranked opponent since the Red Raiders closed the 2013 season with a 6-4 victory over No. 15 Baylor on May 4. Tech is 0-9 against top-25 foes since that game. • This will be the eighth time in the past 10 years where the Red Raiders have opened Big 12 play against a ranked opponent. Texas Tech is 0-8 during that span against top-25 foes but boasts a 2-0 against non-ranked opponents. • Texas Tech heads into this weekend’s series 44-223 alltime against ranked opponents, including a 18-103 mark versus foes ranked inside the top 10. The Red Raiders are 17-69 all-time against ranked opponents when playing in Lubbock. • The Red Raiders are coming off a trip to the west coast where Texas Tech defeated Seattle University, 8-4, on March 18 before dropping a doubleheader to No. 18 Washington the following day. • The Washington doubleheader opened an 11-game stretch against ranked opponents as the Red Raiders are set to face No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 13 Baylor and No. 22 Kansas over their next nine games. It is the longest streak of games against top-25 foes since Texas Tech played 13-consecutive games against ranked opponents in 2012.
