RED RAIDERS BEGIN FINAL STRETCH RUN WEDNESDAY AGAINST OKLAHOMA

Texas Tech will begin the final stages of the 2013 season Wednesday when the Red Raiders host Oklahoma in a 6 p.m. first serve at the United Spirit Arena. The match will air live nationally on FOX College Sports with Robert Giovannetti calling the action and Jim Giacomazzi providing the color commentary. The Red Raiders enter the match 9-20 on the year and 2-11 in Big 12 play while Oklahoma is currently 20-7 overall and 8-5 in league action.

AROUND THE NET • The Oklahoma match continues a challenging final stretch of the season for the Red Raiders, who close the year against

three of the Big 12’s top-four teams in the conference standings over the final four matches. Texas Tech fell to top-ranked Texas in straight sets last Saturday and will play third-place Kansas on Saturday afternoon in Lawrence. • Oklahoma and Texas Tech opened Big 12 play against each other on Sept. 25 in a tightly-contested battle where only 15 points separated the two teams over four sets. The Red Raiders led late in each of the first two sets before allowing Oklahoma to rally and eventually put Tech in a 2-0 deficit heading to the intermission. • The Sept. 25 match earlier this season with Oklahoma marked the first career appearance in scarlet and black for Jenna Allen, who took little time to impress as she totaled a match-high 21 kills to go along with 15 digs from the back row. The performance marked the most kills for a Red Raider in a Big 12 opener since Kelly Johnson also totaled 21 in 2001 against Colorado. • Likewise, Breeann David also notched a career night, not just on the offensive end but on the back row as well in the earlier match against Oklahoma. The junior connected on 18 kills but was effective with a career-high 21 digs as well. Allen and David combined to take 105 of Texas Tech’s 165 attempts in the match. • Despite the loss, the Red Raiders were efficient from the field against the Sooners, hitting at a .200 clip that is currently Texas Tech’s third-highest hitting percentage so far during Big 12 play. The other two higher percentages came in victories over Kansas State and TCU. • Texas Tech has traditionally fared well when hitting at least .200 as the Red Raiders are 32-9 under third-year head coach Don Flora in such matches. • Texas Tech has found success behind the service line as of late, totaling 38 aces in the last seven matches combined, including a season-high 11 at Iowa State. Tech’s 11 aces against the Cyclones marked its most since collegiate volleyball turned to 25-point sets in 2008 and its most since recording 16 on Nov. 10, 2004, at Oklahoma.
