FIRST PITCH • Texas Tech returns to Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park on Tuesday afternoon when the Red Raiders host New Mexico in a 2 p.m. first pitch. • Texas Tech is 3-1 this season in midweek games as the Red Raiders went on the road to defeat Sam Houston State and UT Arlington and split a two-game series at home against New Mexico State. • The Red Raiders are coming off a series win last weekend at Baylor in their Big 12 opener in Waco. The series victory marked the first time Tech has won a Big 12 series opener since the 2013 season. • The Baylor series concluded a six-game, 11-day road trip for the Red Raiders as Texas Tech traveled to No. 9 California and a neutral-site contest with UT Arlington before facing the Bears. • Tanner Gardner and Davis Martin both earned Big 12 weekly awards on Monday as Gardner was named Player of the Week while Martin garnered top newcomer accolades. • Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock enters this week needing just one win to tie Dan Spencer for Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock needs win to move into a tie for third all-time third all-time in program history. Tadlock, who was hired by his alma mater prior to the 2013 one in program history. season, has recorded 114 wins in three-plus seasons. • In addition, Tadlock needs just one more win to reach 550 for his career. Tadlock spent nine seasons at Grayson Community College before eventually being hired at Texas Tech prior to the 2013 season. • Texas Tech currently leads the Big 12 with four victories over ranked opponents. Texas is the only school in the conference to play more than eight games already this year against ranked opponents (12). • The Red Raider pitching staff frustrated both UT Arlington and Baylor last week as Texas Tech surrendered just over three runs per game. Tech began the Baylor series with a 5-0 victory, its first shutout of a Big 12 opponent on the road since the Red Raiders topped Texas, 1-0, on March 15, 2013, in Austin. • Texas Tech and New Mexico will meet for the 111th time on a baseball diamond Tuesday afternoon. It is the second-longest streak among Tech non-conference opponents, trailing only the 113 previous contests between the Red Raiders and Rice. TANNER GARDNER Tanner Gardner was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after the sophomore led the conference with a .615 average (8-for-13). The successful week pushed Gardner’s average to a Big 12-leading .467 clip for the season. He is also the conference leader with a .568 on-base percentage and ranks second with 28 hits and fourth with a .600 slugging percentage. Gardner leads the Red Raiders with nine multi-hit performances this season, four of which that have come in the past five games.
